I definitely agree that we don't need dates on all pages of the website. <g> Shirley On Sun, Jun 8, 2014 at 2:45 PM, Karen De Groote <[email protected]> wrote: > A What's New can be used for a variety of things including > housekeeping, new interesting and useful links or the fact that a page > on your site has been added to. Not to misunderstand what I was saying...that is, I was not saying that all the pages need update dates...only that it is nice to see them there--it also helps the website owner know when s/he last updated that page. However, I do think there should be one on the entry page tho--required or not--it makes a statement that the site is current. I have an automatic date that updates on my pages so whenever I do go in and make a change, big or small, it changes the date and I don't have to worry about it. While having an automatic date change code is nice, the date changes each time it is uploaded whether there has been any change or not. I have seen CCs use this to get away with state update requirements in the past. I agree, if you take on a county, it should be to add data or assistance for researchers, it should not be to collect counties which in the past was an issue with a few peeps in the project. While we are at it, why don't we think about a few basic rules for MTGW? Aside from updating, requiring CC response within, say 96 hours of a contact and no self promotion for paid genealogical research? I know it takes a while in the sparsely populated counties of Montana but believe me, after a while you will get more queries as well as interaction from researchers. They seem hesitant to approach you at first but after some time, you are part of the county. Food for thought of course.... Yep, I too thought that could happen, but I would hope that our county coordinators would not do that. Why bother volunteering if they are not interested in helping researchers to their county find the resources they need to aid them in their search? I think a few new or updated basic rules would be helpful.
