    3. Personally I feel that the reason many states in the USGenWeb have gone stagnant is because the project does not require periodic updating to county sites within the project. Some counties in the project, (not here), list a last update of 2008, which in my opinion is shameful. I don't think it is asking too much of a county coordinator to provide a minimum of two additional sources of genealogical information a year to our counties. I don't think an update date within 3 months is necessary but I do agree that there needs to be something added once every six months at minimum. In another project we are required to have a What's New page on which we list our additions. Not only does this make it easy for researchers to check new additions and promote people's return but it makes it easy for project members to see that the CC is active. Perhaps we could vote in some bare minimum requirements for our state project? I feel that this could only be a positive move for us! 3. I like the idea of a "What's New" page. I'll have to think about that for my pages--at least for my county. The other two counties I have might be a little more difficult to come up with new things other than possible links. Definitely a good idea tho! 3. In my opinion, I think at the very least, there should be a "last update date" on each website entry page to indicate that the website is active and current. However, 3 months may be a little quick for some of us although I like that idea. I know when you’re busy 3 months can go by very quickly. If there is new material to add, then it should be added as quickly as possible & change the date. I agree that pages should be updated within a six month period. However, not all pages within the site need to be updated that often, but links should be checked within that 3 to 6 month period. Having a recent "last update date" on the entry page will let people know that the site is active and current. And, I don't see anything wrong with requiring a last update date. 3. Correction...the USGenWeb does not have a requirement on updates to the county websites. The paragraph from the Policies page is from the MTGenWeb rules and is not part of the required elements but is "strongly recommended". I don't think we need to require a "last update date" on all county websites but would like to see the MTGenWeb add a requirement for sites with a last update date to keep the date current. I personally like a 3 month time frame but 6 months works too. <g> Please post your thoughts on this issue and let's discuss the pros and cons. 3. Ok, so maybe I have a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway. Is there a way to change the program that you create the page with? I have a page in another state and I can't fugue the thing out. I want to be able to do it thru rootsweb. Any help you can give me I will appreciate. I haven't been able to update the site since I took it over. Thanks, Sara On Jun 7, 2014 10:11 PM, "Karen De Groote" <[email protected]> wrote: > Wow that must be a new policy. So happy to see that. 2. Shirley Cullum
    3. Just a reminder that county websites must be updated at least twice a year per the USGenWeb requirements. Therefore the last update date on our websites should not be more than 6 months old. And according to the MTGenWeb Policies page, it is *suggested* that last update dates be "within a month or so" (see below). With those statements in mind, the County of Excellence rules will be updated. To be eligible for the MTGenWeb COE award, county websites that have a last update date on them must have dates that are no older than 6 months. I appreciate your assistance in making sure your county website is compliant with all rules. Shirley >From the Policies page: 10.*IT IS ESSENTIAL* that your site be well-maintained and updated as frequently as possible. Every site needs to have some basic research resources, i.e. Courthouse offices addresses, phone numbers, fees, etc., library, historical society, newspaper, cemetery names & addresses, funeral homes, etc. Many have also provided a bibliography page showing reference books available for their county and much more. Your site needs to be checked often for bad links, new ideas, etc., and the update "date" changed. We do check these and inquire of county coordinators if we find sites that have not been updated within a month or so. If you are ill, going on vacation, or having some temporary problems, the State Coordinator would like to know and, of course, we make exceptions for those times.

    3. I just looked at the MT page and it looks like he has began to work on it. Montana is spelled out and the Montana flag is displayed. However, the flag on the county pages is not showing up. I sent him a message about that and the lowercase "s" in USGenWeb. <g> Shirley On Sun, Jun 1, 2014 at 9:40 AM, Karen De Groote <[email protected]> wrote: > At this point you have the right to emit a high pitched and very loud > alarm.
