The list is a place where members may comment on items of interest at the Project's National level. It often contains political comments and the volume of mail can get heavy at times. You can subscribe by sending a message to: [email protected] for individual e-mails or [email protected] for digest mail. USGENWEB-ALL (AB-CHAT) is: BOARD CHAT is a read only list where the Advisory Board discusses issues before they are moved to BOARD-L. Mail is usually heavy. If you'd like to listen in on the Advisory Board you can subscribe by sending a message to: [email protected] for individual e-mails or [email protected] for digest mail. The archives for this list includes old messages from when this list was the Project's Discussion list. Board Chat begins with the month of Sep 2005. The following message is from the National Coordinator. Shirley ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Denise Wells via <[email protected]> Date: Sat, Sep 27, 2014 at 11:59 AM Subject: [STATE-COORD] Discuss and All Lists To: state-coord <[email protected]>, usgenweb-discuss < [email protected]>, usgenweb-all <[email protected]> PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL APPROPRIATE LISTS - REGIONAL, STATE, ETC. I am sending this email to the state-coord mail list, the dicuss list and the all list. I do have reasons for this. I'm sure I am beginning to open a can of worms, but I promised communication. No, I have not discussed this with the AB. This is and will remain part of my platform for this 2014-2015 term. I'm sure I am also departing from the norm that we have experienced since the inception of this Project. However, personally, I don't see me just chairing meetings and motions. I would be very happy if you would definitely consider sending this email to your mail lists for your states in order to reach the highest number of the project volunteers. If you are not subscribed to one or both of these lists, I suggest that you might want to do so if you want to engage in conversations that will be getting started shortly there. As I have stated in the past weeks, I am very interested in hearing from our volunteers as to interests, concerns, ideas and marketing and moving USGenWeb forward. I know that some folks don't like change. I myself don't always like change. I get comfortable with how things are and how things aren't. You may be the same way. Change can be uncomfortable. Change can be difficult. But without change, we don't grow. We begin to die. Am I comfortable about being the new National Coordinator? Nope. I certainly have not been in this position before. I will be drawing on my lessons on being a State Coordinator. I don't believe cohesiveness comes from being a dictator. I don't think that one size fits all. Everyone is different and everyone has different opinions about just about everything. My goal is to be the best that I can be. Will I be that to everyone? Probably not. But I am intent to do my best. That being said, I have received private emails from several people about things they are concerned with. Some things have required a bit of behind the scenes conversations, as well as receiving ideas for new possibilities for The USGenWeb Project. If you want to participate in conversations about new ideas for the National Project, I invite you to subscribe to the Discuss list and the All list, where I also invite cooperative conversations about possibilities that could be brought to fruition over the coming months. Every idea will not be able to be processed as I am pretty sure once folks start contributing their thoughts and ideas and we are all busy in our REAL lives besides Genealogy & History, but I want us to begin the exploration of how we can move USGenWeb forward into the future, and to explore what could be possible for our Project. Let's put together a list of ideas to address. Help me, to help you, and to help The USGenWeb Project. PLEASE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND, NEGATIVITY, NASTINESS AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THESE LISTS. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions, but if you cannot discuss these new conversations appropriately, you will not be able to post to the list. We have administrators for these lists and they will, at my request, I hope, be even less tolerant than ever about how people "speak" to each other. This is to be a positive discussion. If you cannot disagree politely, please do not say things you wouldn't want said to you. Period. We cannot create a bigger and better project with negativity and nastiness. I don't allow it on my state mail lists, and it won't be allowed here. If you cannot say something nicely or politely, you will be moderated and/or removed and placed in a non-posting list. I don't want that to have anyone on it. I want everyone to be able to discuss ideas in a positive manner. So, beginning October 1, 2014, let's get this started. I have a few more things that need to be addressed for the beginning of this 2014-15 session to complete and then, let's get back to work together. We had a great conversation going on the Discuss list regarding an announcement list. We shall resume that session and get that put into place. If you have other thoughts and ideas you would prefer to share with my privately, or would prefer that I, or your regional representative place for discussion, please let me and your AB reps know. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to creating with you and not just a usual term. We have had some great NCs, and they have handled many difficult things during their terms. I think we are very much past that type of term, and think we can move on to not just a usual day to day operation. Let's create an EXTRAORDINARY YEAR TOGETHER! This warning came through the STATE_COORD mail list so I am not sure if the messages are being sent to county coordinators or not. But Bbtter safe than sorry. Shirley The postallocators.com is a hacker phishing site. Do not open the message. They are asking us to put link in our websites. This is a very new scam/phishing case the United States Postal Service have not even started to act on yet.

Hello Everyone, The County of Excellence Committee is pleased to announce MADISON COUNTY as the AUGUST 2014 County of the Month. Congratulations to the County Coordinator Jane Colmenares! The Madison County is very user friendly and has many resources for her patrons to find information. A page of interest to me was the History Timeline. Great Work from the County! Please visit with Jane and the friendly folks of Madison County here: http://www.hiddenancestors.com/MadisonMT/ Be sure to go to [email protected] to say congratulations. Kindest Regards, Christina Palmer MTGenWeb COE Committee
I definitely think every CC should spend some time on the EC in order to see how the committee operates. The County of Excellence Committee needs another person to help in the monthly selection of a County of Excellence (COE). If you can help please contact me. The committee also needs a couple of volunteers to look at the 5 nominated counties and help select the COE. The Finals Crew members may be COE regional surfers but that is not a requirement. Thank you, Christina Palmer

The new policies include a provision for an SC election every 2 years and as I have been the SC for the MTGenWeb for 2 1/2 (or so) years, it is time to hold another election. The policies also state that candidates must declare their intention to run for the SC position no later than September 1st. The requirement for the position is having been a CC in the project for at least 12 months. I would like to continue as the SC of the MTGenWeb and this is my official notice of my intent to run for the position in the upcoming election. Shirley

There is a malware pop-up on Find A Grave (all pages) that says your Java is out of date. When you click on it to ignore it, it adds a setup.exe to your computer even though you didn't tell it to. That setup.exe file should be deleted from your downloads. Google found the issue sometime yesterday and my Avast is now blocking the download. Find A Grave is owned by RootsWeb and they have been notified. Shirley
The new policies implemented last month are in effect and the 30 day grace period for bringing the county websites into compliance expires on August 17th. Please be sure you check the new requirements at http://www.mtgenweb.com/policies.html to insure that your websites are up to date. Thanks, Shirley

An issue was raised during this election cycle that some members were not receiving important announcements from the NC/AB and EC. A discussion was started on the Discuss list about how communication could be improved. Based on discussions on the Discuss and State Coordinators lists that included participation from CCs in the SWSC region, an issue was raised that many members did not receive Election announcements.
