Bertha Markley Tilburn was my grandfather's twin sister. Arthur and Katie had 4 sons --- Hammer(?) and Harley who both died in infancy (less than 1 year of age)and are buried in a cemetery west of Twin Bridges, Montana --- near the Mailey homestead. The brothers share the same headstone with the name and date of each on opposite sides of the stone. Arlie (1910-2004)married Irma Irene Barbie and had one child --- me. Rosa May (1912-2009) married John William Billing and had 4 children (2 daughters and 1 son --- all currently living) and 1 son that died. Jimmie was born Dec. 19, 1914 and died June 19, 1924. Arthur, Katie, Jimmie, Rosa May Markley Billing & John William Billing, and baby boy Billing are all buried at Pioneer Cemetery west of Jordan, Montana. Years after Arthur died, travelers would stop at the Markley home (originally a log school house) on the south side of the Big Dry Creek by Jordan and ask if they could camp there for the night. Katie loved the company so she decided to establish a campground, Kamp Katie. She and then her daughter, "May" ran the campground until about 2008. I have dates and pictures of the gravestones, but do not have access to them at this minute. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I appreciate the tip and I agree that it sounds like the better way. Looks like you may have done this sort of thing before. LOL I was thinking about writing a letter to the Senior Center in Jordan, MT, to "Anyone", asking about living descendants. I like your idea better. Once again, thank you so much and I do hope to have Happy Holidays, and you do the same. I am still wandering about the Successful Searching part... lol Sincerely, Russ Looney btw... The tree you mentioned is my mother's and I's tree, and the Balentines are the very family that got me started and, still, the ones that I cannot figure out. Par for the course I guess... Family Tree. For example Elvira Ballentine Ryan died Dec. 10, 1988 in Jordan, Garfield Co., MT. You can request a copy of her obituary from the Garfield County Library, 406-557-2297 or Drawer 69, Jordan, MT 59337-0069. After I receive the obituary, I look for survivors. I am related through Frank's brother Dudley Balentine (these two brothers spelled there names slightly different) and would like to talk about sharing picture and stories of the family. it would be nice to have some form of representation for Frank and his family to include in our own story. Dound some info... have no idea if you have it. Will pass it on. No particular order as of findings. No census found on Wilson as of now. Two birth records for ELBERT Ballentine... not Elbert. Son of Wilson and Ellen Ballentine.. b.3/11/1856 in Trigg Co. KY. FRANK Ballentine also born in Trigg Co. Ky. to P> of Wilson and Ellen Bounds Ballentine 12/13/1861 Dudley Ballentine born 2/15/1859 also in Trigg Ky to Wilson and Ellen now.. comes the interesting stuff of Frank's kids. in 1910 Harlem, Montanta census, 13yr old ELVA Ballentine is listed living with her grandparents Hugh and Emma Graybeal. The surname is not adding up here.. but passing on. Shows where Elva was born Olkahoma Terr 1900 Census shows Frank with Wife Lizzie and one dau. Elva Frank was 35, Lizzie 28 and Elva 3 am sure you have this.. but passing along 1920 Garfield Mont shows both Frank and son Albert living side by side.. age 59, widow,, and age 26 single by 1930 Frank is still in Garfield,.. but sows where his GRANDDAUGHTER, Sara B. Tubbs age 21 living with him. now, what got my curiousity up is in 11878 is the marriage record of WILSON BALLENTINE marrying Mary Ann Adams 9/25*/1878 in Crittenden KY. could not find any census or any other records of Wilson. So, I am ass*u*ming Elen has died and Wilson remarried. No ages of either Wilson nor Mary Ann at time of marriage. What is interesting is not finding any census on Wilson. I think Sarah's brothers and mother went to Montana as well. I am a descendant of Frank Ballentine's older brother, Dudley Balentine. Frank Ballentine was the youngest of four siblings, Alvira, Albert, Dudley and Frank. Their parents were Wilson and Elenore Bounds Ballentine. They all originated from Eddyville, Lyon County, KY. I saw a posting online from a descendant of Frank Ballentine's indicating she had much to share concerning the family in the way of pictures and stories, but unfortunately her information was dated and I was unable to contact her regarding the subject.
