    3. Eleanor, You have given me hope! I checked the web site last night for East Mississippi State Hospital (http://www.emsh.state.ms.us), and the web site said the East Mississippi State Insane Asylum opened for service in January 1885. The name was changed to East Mississippi Insane Hospital in 1898 and finally to East Mississippi State Hospital in the early 1930's. Since my relative was committed in October 1889, I am hoping her records would be included in the early records you saw at the state archives in Jackson. I also e-mailed the public information officer at the hospital to see what records are accessible (if any), and if so, where can they be accessed. If I find out anything useful, I'll update the list. I really appreciate the encouragement. I'm not so much interested in her "gory medical details" as I am as to whether or not she died there and if so, was she buried there. Thanks again! Mary K.
