John Lacy Lee's paternal grandparents were Evan Ludbrook Lee (born 16 October 1822 in Alabama, died 1 January 1900 in Neshoba Co., Mississippi) and Nancy McIntyre (born April 1824 in Mississippi, died 31 December 1896, Philadelphia, Neshoba Co., Mississippi). John Lacy Lee's father Daniel Martin Lee may have gone to Indian Territory, now part of Oklahoma, to join Daniel's sisters Arelia Lee (married William Paris Hickman) and Martha Jane Lee (Mattie - married William Lace Allford). A brother, John Malcolm Lee, did join the sisters in the Choctaw Nation.
