I'm trying to verify that my GGG Grandfather, William Butler Owings, served in the legislature for Winston County. He was elected 1870 and died January, 1871, while serving in office. His funeral was from the Jackson Methodist church. I have sent money to Jackson for any information they might have but they cashed my check and would never reply. Is there another way to verify this? Was there perhaps a newpaper from around Winston County that would have archives that would have reported his death? He was a Methodist minister and I do have a copy of his obit from a Methodist publication. I was hoping I would get info from Jackson and perhaps a picture existed of the 1870 legislature. I was also hoping they would have info on where he was buried. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Elinor
