Louise, I am very interested in your Butler research but am not sure if I can assist you or not. My great great grandfather James M. Butler and family lived in Winston Co. from 1847 to 1852. His oldest son is named Thomas A. Butler. Thomas was born about 1837 in Alabama. The Peter Crawford estate on the Winston Co. web site lists a Thomas Butler purchasing a rawhide at the estate sale. I had assumed that this was my Thomas Butler but it may very well be yours. I see that your Thomas seems to have been born about 1818. My James M. had a brother named Thomas who was born about 1818. The information I have indicates that he died in Richmond, VA but I am not sure of the source of this. This might be a direction you should research.
