This from Louis Taunton's book of excerpts from The Winston Signal: January 3, 1885: Capt. J.A. Savage, who has been for many years a resident of this county, died at his home in the northern part of the county Tuesday, the 30th of December. He was a member of the Methodiist Church and a Mason and leaves a large family and many friends behind." There are several references to persons of the surname Savage in these two volumes.
