    3. Hello to Nancianne, Jerry, and Jim. My email address is [email protected], and my mailing address still is 240 Cherokee Road, Nashville, TN 37205-1818. Nancianne, I would be glad to hear from you. I have not been very good at keeping in touch with Louisville classmates and friends. I was at the farmhouse in northern Winston County for a week earlier in the month, and I enjoyed the opportunity to visit with lots of friends and family in Winston, Oktibbeha, and Choctaw counties. I attended a meeting of our committee, created in May of last year, to oversee the replacement of the cemetery fence at Bethel Methodist Church on the Winston-Oktibbeha county line. The new fence will be completed by the 4th Sunday in May, the date of the only scheduled service at the old church. My Weeks ancestors in 1874 left Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in northern Winston County to be founding members of Bethel Church, located closer to their home. Pleasant Hill Church is in the hills on the east side of the Noxubee River, and Bethel Church is in the hills on the west side of the Noxubee. The ancestors of Mr. Jim Savage (who started this link of messages) have connections with both churches, also. His widowed ancestor Ann Gillespie Savage married your husband's widowed ancestor James Hamill in 1849. The only child of this marriage was Henrietta Hamill, who married Daniel Suber. Dan and Henrietta were Barry's great-grandparents and were buried in the cemetery at Pleasant Hill Church. The second wife of Mr. Jim Savage's ancestor, James Anderson Savage, was Elizabeth Shaw Savage. Elizabeth was buried in the newer Bethel Cemetery, while her husband and her parents, Wiley Shaw and Drucilla Crawford Shaw, were buried in the older Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mr. Jerry Butler is trying to find a connection between his ancestor Sarah Crawford Butler of northern Winston County and the family of Drucilla Crawford Shaw's brother Peter Crawford. I have not yet been of much help to him in determining the Crawford connection. My mother's Porter ancestors purchased 1,040 acres of Peter Crawford's farm, following his death in 1854. Construction of the Hamill/Porter farmhouse in northern Winston County, where my mother grew to adulthood, was begun in 1859 by Charles Oliver Hamill and was completed to its present size by his son-in-law William Walker Porter in the 1880s. Oliver was an older brother of Henrietta Hamill Suber. Billy Weeks ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry L. 3. Mr. Weeks a number of years ago Weldon McELVANY visited with you regarding the McELVANY families. The two of you exchanged letters also. I have not pulled those out today but I think it was in the 1970's. Marylee McELVANY LINGLE found in her fathers notes later the date for John T. McELVANY married to Malinda ?? of 15 March 1849. I think this is the date of their marriage. Weldon had made a note on the side to ask you where this was found? Marylee had a flood in her home and not all of the paperwork survived. Do you have any idea where this might have been? I can't find a marriage for Robert P. McELVANY and Nancy. I can't find a marriage for John T. and Malinda. I would dearly love to find out who these women were of course. Do you by chance have any idea's? John T. McElvany was declared a pauper in 1895 Choctaw County as was wife Malinda. I found close dates of death for both in the Commissioners meetings as they were buried as paupers. No idea where the county buried them. I finally have close dates as to when. A Robert McELVANY is found in 2 April 1818 Tuscaloosa County, Alabama Territory. Robert is a appointed constable by the governor. Robert McELVANY and Richmond CARROLL are on the bond for Constable. 4 August 1819 Robert McELVANY makes deeds of 3 slaves to his children out of love and affection. The kids are Robert, Narcissa, and Sary Ann. John M. PORTER and Samuel NORWOOD were witnesses to these deeds. Robert was given slave Daniel abt 13 yrs old. Sary Ann is given a slave named Mary. Narcissa is given Dicy about 18 years of age. There is also mention of a deed of land between Robert McELVANY and Richard CARROLL 2 April 1818 in Book 1 pg 8. So far NARA nor Alabama can find this deed. All of the above paperwork is wrote in someone else's hand writing. I need a copy of Robert McElvany's signature to prove this is our Robert later found in Winston County, MS. The kids match up except for Narcissa. John T. and Malinda named the first known child Narcissa on the 1850 census for Winston county. James E. "Jim" SHAW married to Eliza Jane McELVANY daughter of John T. and Malinda is another mystery. I know he died in the middle 1890's. She later is found married to a DODD in TX with a baby born 1900. If she married J. E. SHAW son of James and Jane BAGWELL SHAW he is blind, & much older then her. I know she would have been considered a spinster at her age in those times. I also have a copy of the marriage and he did sign his name. Do you or anyone else have a clue which J. E. "Jim" SHAW this one might have been. This reads like a book. I am sorry it is so long. I am seeking any help that might be out there on this family. I can't seem to back them out of 1830 Alabama, Winston, Choctaw County MS. Robert is in Monroe County MS 1820, Pickens Co. Ala 1830, Winston 1840 and dies Oct. 1849. Thanks to anyone that might can help with this family. Vickye Vickye White 3477 N.
