Does anyone on the list know anything about the John McELROY who is listed in Cemeteries of Winston County ? I believe that it lists birth as April 16 1807 GA and death as Jan 1876 . Is he the John McELROY who married Priscilla SHIVERS ( formerly NEWMAN ) in Winston County on June 30 , 1864 ? In the 1870 Mississippi census, Priscilla McELROY is living in Oktibbeha County in the home of the brother of her first husband ( James SHIVERS ) and is listed as a widow in the 1880 Attala Co census. Molly: I am almost hesitant in answering your query as I do not have all my information in front of me. John McElroy who was born 16 April 1807 in Georgia was married (1) Frances _________ (will have to look up her name) had children one of them being the John McElroy who married Priscilla Shivers. John, Sr. married (2) Frances Gainey - a 15 year old and he had grown children much older than her and they had a housefull of children - one of them being Annie Elizabeth McElroy who was my wife's grandmother. Annie married Peter Columbus Myres. John and Frances and Annie and Peter are all buried in Smallwood Cemetery in the western part of Winston County. I have not worked on the McElroy Family in several years, so am rusty in all of this and do not at the present time have time to pull out records in my 100 plus boxes. Will try to find out the email of the McElroy expert who lives in the next county. Hope this helps some.
