She was married to John W. Skeen (b. 1802 in Laurens, SC; d. Aug. 1874, Attala, MS). They appear in the 1850 census for Attala County, MS, along with children Savilla, John W., and Solomon, although they had other children (Amanda Bell, William T. John Anderson, Anna T., James, Caroline, Basheba, and Renora--according to family information). I do not know anything further about the Wilson line, but this may be a connection to your research on James Wilson from Winston County, Mississippi.
I thought some of you might find this link helpful: Ken ---------- Southern Claims Commission's Report to Congress on Disallowed Claims for the years 1871-1874. Scanned images and indexes. While these are not the complete claims, Billy Markland, the webmaster, is purchasing copies, scanning the images and indexing the claims as his time (and funds) permit. The 1871 digests consist of claims from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. There are also claimants and witnesses from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, as well as one ship's captain whose state was unidentified. Background: "An act of [U.S.] Congress, approved March 3, 1871, provided that the President nominate three commissioners of claims (to be confirmed by the Senate) to receive, examine, and consider the claims of "those citizens who remained loyal adherents to the cause and the Government of the United States during the war [Civil War], for stores or supplies taken or furnished during the rebellion for the use of the Army of the United States in States proclaimed as in insurrection against the United States." By an act approved May 11, 1872, this clause was extended to include property used by the Navy. The commissioners were to satisfy themselves of the loyalty of each claimant; certify the amount, nature, and value of the property taken or furnished; report their judgment on each claim in writing to the House of Representatives at the beginning of each session of Congress. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familyinformation/ This Message and Attachment, if any, Certified Virus-Free - Norton AntiVirus Professional 2003 -
Hello all: I am in the process of finalizing the new Winston County web site, and want to add the Winston County Genealogical and Historical Society contact information as a "Helpful Info" link to the main index page. I have a "Winston County Roots" newsletter from August 2002, but there is no contact, address or phone number printed on it. Can someone help me get the particulars on this society (contact name, phone, address, e-mail address, meeting time, dues, etc.) so I can have relevant information for the web site? I would certainly appreciate any help on this. Thanks! Ken This Message and Attachment, if any, Certified Virus-Free - Norton AntiVirus Professional 2003 -

So thru their wives, John Marsh's daughters would have been John Kitchens' nieces. And he only had 2 daughters of age in 1906. Could Rye's killer have been John Kitchens? By my reckoning, this Mr. Kitchens would have been about 55 in 1906... There may be another Kitchens uncle of whom I'm unaware, though.

Rye's mother was Miriam Marsh; her half-brother, John W. Marsh, was my GGG grandfather. John only had one brother, and only 2 sons who were old enough in 1906 to be involved in anything like this. John died sometime between 1900 and 1910; I'm not sure exactly when, but he was living in Webster by then. Do the names John, Oliver, Luther, or Alexander Marsh ring a bell as to who the perpetrator was? At any rate, if it was a Marsh who killed Rye, it was his cousin or uncle. All the Marshes in Winston were related. And if the Marsh who killed him was defending his "niece", she'd have probably been a cousin to Rye also. Lordy! Anyone know anything about this?? I already have one murder scandal in my line....
Hi, Frances! It's so good to hear from you! I descend from James and Seanna's son Ransom Newton Boswell, b 5 Jun 1814, d 17 Jan 1892 in Russellville, AR. He married Elizabeth C. Higgason 13 Apr 1845 in Winston Co. Ransom and Elizabeth had 8 children...I descend from their youngest son, Ransom Newton Vandorn "Van" Boswell, who was my g grandfather. Van was born in Drew Co, AR, and died in Russellville, AR in 1930. His daughter, Emma, was born in 1897, died in 1940. Her son George is my father. I'd love to compare notes with you on the Boswells! I hope to eventually get up there and findthe burial place of James and Seanna (do you have death dates and burial sites on these people?) It's exciting to finally find someone with this same line! Thanks again! Talk to you soon! In 1840, the census has him as William M. "Robinson" in Winston County (probably the area formed from Lowndes County) with a wife and the two younger boys. In 1850, he was apparently a widower living with Gustavus and his wife Isabella in Winston County; he was still living with that family in Attala County Mississippi in 1860. I checked the Boswell Cemetery first and the earliest burial listed was Florence Speakes 2 Oct 1874. (Her mother was a Boswell.) There is a marker listed as Boswell family one marker for six unmarked graves No dates. The only James M. Boswell died 18 Apr 1897 aged 68 yrs 5 mos 2 days ME (That would put his date of birth as 16 Dec 1828) ((Maybe Jr?)) There are two James Bs but they dont fit your time frame. There are no other J's or M's. There are no Senas listed. Just in case I checked Neshoba & Choctaw Counties. They wern't there. --- Marci <[email protected]> wrote: > Tim, > > Thanks for the marriage info on Ransom and > Elizabeth! You can check with Louis Taunton [email protected] or with the library in Louisville,Ms. This email from Louis also has two new books that are out for Winston Co. Louis can give you up to date prices on the others. They had a book on all the cemeterys in Winston Co. and two books on marriages that are real nice to have. They have one on census (not sure of dates..sometime in 1800s) and the best one if they still have copys is called Winston county and its people. I have all of these and will be buying the two new ones soon. Good luck. I will look for you if you will give me enough info so I know I'm getting the right family. Tim, Thanks for the marriage info on Ransom and Elizabeth! I had the date, but not the other info! Ransom's parents were James Madison Boswell, Sr. and Sena Mullins. I'm not sure who R.J.
