Curtis and I know his wife was named Cherry - I have also heard her referred to Cherokee, but I didn't have her last name. I know the names of their children: Rev. Vivian C. Curtis, and Leland Curtis, their two sons - and May and Claudine Curtis thier two daughters. They lived in Winston County in the fifth district in 1880 census - next to his widowed mother Eliza Elizabeth Flowers Curtis and his brother Alfred Nash Curtis; and his brother James Abner Curtis and his wife Martha L Roebuck and thier 4 children. Benjamin and his brothers were the sons of Thomas Curtis and Eliza Elizabeth Flowers. I would be happy to share my information with you - but I don't have much. I didn't know Cherry's last name even.
Thomas Jefferson Pearson and his wife, Francis Elmira Dempsey are my gggrandparents through their son, Charles Sherman. According to her death certificate, Francis actually died on 6 June. I also show the parents of Thomas to be William Pearson & Sarah ???. Thomas & Francis were both born in MS as were their 10 children. I show Thomas Pearson to be son of William Pearson & Sarah. Thomas Jefferson Pearson and Frances A are buried in Center Ridge Cemetery, Winston County. His dates are b. 27 April 1844, d. 26 Sep 1921; hers b. 7 Jun 1848, d. 5 Apr 1940. I have not searched the 1850 Winston Co. census for Pearson, but you will probably find William and Sarah there. Sorry, but I think you will need to look further for your Thomas. Thomas Pearson b. ~ 1844 Winston County, Mississippi The 1880 Census lists the above Thomas Pearson, living in the Northeastern part of Winston County, Mississippi. What I am trying to determine is who this man's parents are. Could it be that his father is Robert P. Pearson residing at the same time in Oktibbeha County? Robert P. Pearson and his wife Mary R. had a son - Thomas - listed in the 1850 census who could have been born in 1844. There is a problem with my theory however and I can only hope the census taker made a mistake. The census listing for this Thomas lists his mother's birthplace as South Carolina where the 1850 Census and the 1880 Census lists her birthplace as Georgia. Also, Thomas was born in Alabama, not Mississippi as it states for him, however I have seen so many mistakes in census records I am hoping that is a mistake as well. Thomas is shown married to Francis. A check of the marriage records shows that Thomas Pearson married Francis E. Dempsey on 26 December 1867 in Winston County, Mississippi. I am also told Francis' middle name is Elmira or Almira. The couple's children are listed as Alex (age at census 10), T.J. Pearson (8), John J. (6), Quitman Pearson (5), Nelly Pearson (3), and Samuel (1). John Home - [email protected] work - [email protected]

I have been trying to connect with all the different branches on the family tree and update mine. My grandfather was born 2/28/1847 married Mary J Martin in Winston County, MS in November 1868 or 1869 dependent upon whose records you are reviewing. John Wesley Curtis died in Norman, OK where he was receiving treatment for a medical condition in January, 1920. He was running a wagon yard and was a grain merchant there. His obituary cites he was one of the towns most respected citizens. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and attended M. E. Church. Mary Martin Curtis went to the I O O F Retirement Home in Checotah Oklahoma where she died in 1930. The family had moved to Texas in 1882 and the moved to Oklahoma in the fall of 1906. He had a son and daughter: William Henry Curtis, my grandfather, and Beulah Curtis I know that Buelah died prior to my ggranddad and she married a man by the last name of Huckaby. They had relatives in the Chickasha Oklahoma area because my dad took me to a funeral there for one of them when I was about 9 or 10. My grandmother, Ella Mae Spears, died when in 1909, and my father and his two sisters were raised by their maternal grandparents in Van Zandt County, TX. His name was Thomas Spears and his wife's name was Addie "Unknown". My father was William Glendon Curtis, b. 1907 and died 1971. My aunts were Gracie Mae Curtis and Maudine Curtis who married Rex Callicott in Wills Point, TX. Grace married Elmer Lewis - he had previously been married and had a son Ray who was killed in World War II. They never had children. Grace belonged the the Church of the Nazarenes and Maudine was a Seventh Day Adventist. I was raised in the Baptist Church, more from convenience of location to attend than anything else, I believe. My father was married twice - once to Della Mae Sanderson from which marriage there were two offspring - my brother Charles Thomas Curtis and Bobby Glen Curtis. His second marriage was to Opal Lillian Adamich - they had two children - me (Muriel Dean Curtis Horn) and my brother, Randall Ray Curtis. All of us have children and grandchildren of our own. Please let me know if you need additional information. I am glad to have found someone - Both of my parents died prior to 1971 and we have very little family other than ourselves that we actually know of from the Curtis side - Aunt Grace only had a step son and Aunt Maudine only had two children: Rex Jr. and Betty. Please let me know how else I can help.

Hello, I have a Joseph Martin Brown, born 1796. He was a son of Joseph Patrick Brown and Mary Ann Stephens. His sister, Winnifred Ann Brown, married Thomas C Young, Jr. and they both died in Winston Co., MS. One of the Young's children was Mary Ann Stephens Young. She married William Harvey Scoggin in Winston Co., MS, in January, 1839. Their eldest child was Eliza Winnefred Scoggin and she was my husband's great grandmother. I would like to know more about the Joseph Martin Brown you are writing about. I feel this must be the same family. I'll also be glad to give you further information about our part of this family, if you are interested. Sincerely, Dortha McElroy Greenlee
