I found the names of his two sons, their mother and her new husband, in the probates. I do not have the date he died. Guardians for his 2 sons were appointed in 1924 and their mother had already remarried. He could have died several years before. The first Will book in Wilkinson county starts in 1925. Previous Wills were in the Accounts and Inventory books and I have not gotten through them all Many people died without a will and only the inventory of the estate, is available. A guardian had to be appointed for each child under the age of 21. Sometimes it was the same person for each child, sometimes not. The mother was generally not allowed to be the sole guardian but was sometimes allowed to share guardianship. If the deceased owned real-estate, slaves or cattle, there would be a probate. You can order these records on microfilm through your nearest Family History Center. That's what I do. I live in Texas and do most of my research by reading the microfilmed records.
