The Baton Rouge Diocese Sacramental Records are in publication and contain many volumes. New volumes are added from time to time, but I do not know if there is an ongoing schedule for issuance. These records date back to the beginning of the Baton Rouge Diocese, which in the late 1700's included the Natchez District. The very old non-catholic records are in an early volume, possibly the first. I do not know when Natchez was separated from the Baton Rouge Diocese. These records are not limited to marriages, are entered alphabetically, with appropriate explanations in the introduction of each volume. Records of those of the Catholic faith in the Natchez Dist. during this period, will likely be found in the main of the books covering these early years. My suggestion would be that the researcher not overlook the possibility of a recording in the regular contents regardless of religious affiliation. In particular, burials might have taken place without the issue of religion.
Hi, Thanks for the additional information! This is fairly new territory for me..there is a lot of background history to be found on the I'net..just wish they'd stop changing their URLs.. The book I looked at was the 2nd volume of "Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records" 1770-1803, publ 1980. This volume covered baptismal, marriage, and burial records for this time frame.
