For our Wilkinson Co. MS Ashley family, I had my male cousin do a DNA sample. His sample matched with another descendant of John D. Ashley [no surprise] and James Thomas Ashley, b. 1876 Coahoma Co., MS. I have not been able to trace this line but still have hopes of doing so. The lady working this line thinks they connect to the Robert Ashley of Claiborne Co., MS but we haven't been able to prove it, at this time. One thing we do know is, Robert Ashley of Claiborne co. had a brother named Thomas and when Thomas died, his brother, John Ashley, did the probate in Adams Co. MS. 1804. We have not proved this John Ashley was our John D. Ashley whose daughter md. in Amite Co. MS, 1809. Still working on it. We have new connections that show we have a common ancestor, about 14 generations away, to the descendant of Cary Ashley b. sometimes in the 1800s in Jefferson County, Tenn. or Wilkes co. NC. I was sent material that showed this Cary Ashley as the descendant of William Ashley b. 1782 Surry co. NC [I was told by the lady who understands the DNA codes [which I don't] that this line would connect somewhere back in England.] Our other connections was a line of Ashleys in Somerset England, the first of the known line being Edward Ashley, b. c1652 Somerset England.
