Thanks for the information - it was something I did not have. If the "P" in Alex Leak's name actually stands for "Pickard", then that blows my theory that the "P" stood for "Paddock". However, the land patent lists him as "Leek", which we know is a frequent mispelling. If the name is actually "Pickard", it still sounds like a family name to me, although (for now) I'm going to stick with my "Paddock". How did you get a date of death for Lucy Davis? She applied a second time for a pension in 1916. I do know I spent a small fortune trying to get a copy of her death certificate, but one could not be located.
