First the date you give for Wilkinson Co. is not going to lead you, I think, to any American records, unless they were compiled much later for the U.S. Congress. Why? Because the date you give--1787 or so--was before Mississippi was part of the United States. The Louisiana Purchase, if I remember my history, occurred in 1803 or so. Possibly, you will find your Scott fellow had a British or Spanish land grant. If so, then you may want to examine what are called American State Papers. This will be a learning experience, however, and the sources may not be readily available to you. To cut the matter short, however, there is a probable short-cut. Long ago, a man named Walter Lowrie [note spelling] pulled together some of these land claims for the use of the US Congress.
