    2. First the date you give for Wilkinson Co. is not going to lead you, I think, to any American records, unless they were compiled much later for the U.S. Congress. Why? Because the date you give--1787 or so--was before Mississippi was part of the United States. The Louisiana Purchase, if I remember my history, occurred in 1803 or so. Possibly, you will find your Scott fellow had a British or Spanish land grant. If so, then you may want to examine what are called American State Papers. This will be a learning experience, however, and the sources may not be readily available to you. To cut the matter short, however, there is a probable short-cut. Long ago, a man named Walter Lowrie [note spelling] pulled together some of these land claims for the use of the US Congress. This publishing company in the past few decades have published some of his works: Easley, South Carolina : Southern Historical Press, 1986 Search for author Walter Lowrie in the Family History Library Catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) If you are near a large genealogical library, ask the librarian to help you find an INDEX [not the land claims themselves] called Grassroots of America by Philip McMullin. Clayton Library in Hosuton, TX is one of the foremost genealogical libraries in the United States. You may want to read the article which they cite.
