Nov 03, 2005 Does anyone know where the Stafford Plantation was located? It was owned by Hartwell Stafford and his wife Elizabeth. I have all of the records on the plantation that I copied from the records in the courthouse basement. Could not locate the actual plantation. I understand there is an old Stafford Cemetery, but could not find it either. There was a murder that occurred on that plantation about Aug 31, 1885. A john Smith was killed. There was a small write up in the Woodville Republican newspaper after the murder. No info on John Smith!!! Anyone know of him or his family? This plantation may have been close to Centreville. I would appreciate any info on this plantation. Thanks ever so much, Gloria gaknight1@earthlink.net
Gloria, Hartwell and Elizabeth Turbeville Stafford were my 4th Great Grandparents. I have been searching for any information on them while they lived in Wilkinson Co. He came from South Carolina. I have several census records but had no records on their home. I would be very interested in these records and anything on this cemetery. I do know they were supposed to be very wealthy according to the 1860 census, they had a great deal of property and six children. The information I have on this family is very limited, especially after 1860. Cemetery book....it looks like the Stafford Cemetery is located off Hwy. 24 (just past Centreville) and heading east toward Gloster. The actual road it is located on is the "Old Hospital Road" Not much information, but maybe someone else on the list can tell you more about the plantation, I hope so Brenda McCurley White
Gloria, If you are still on the list will you please let me know if you got any other responses to this email?
