Hi Virginia: Checking in again but am up to my ears "busy" and sick with winter colds, but feel the need to add to your research, if it helps. We discussed this before, but it is complicated and so from my side of the fence, here goes: From my research, my father's, who can still give names, dates and places, Encyclopedia of Founding Families of the Ouachita Valley of Louisiana and your information, William Morgan Nettles and Elizabeth Ashley m. 1809 Amite Co. and moved with his father Isham and other family to Rapides Parish, LA to continue preaching and establishing Baptist churches. Elizabeth died in childbirth in LA but their baby son, Wm Thomas Nettles was brought by his father back to the Ashley family in Wilkinson Co for care, where Susanna and his grandparents Ashley reared him. He married an Elizabeth Ashely, 1843; she died and then he married Sarah Ann Owens, 1846. They had a child among their children named after his father, William Morgan Nettles, b. 1851. who later married Mary Roland, 1881 The first abovementioned Wm Morgan Nettles first married Elizabeth Ashley, 1809. His second marriage was to Parthena Rowan, 1825. The William Thomas Nettles mentioned above, son of Wm and Elizabeth Ashley, first married an Elizabeth Ashley (cousin) in 1843. This Elizabeth died and his second marriage was to Sarah Ann Owens and they named one of their sons, William Morgan Nettles. I would still hope the future may hold a meeting with you and my father and me and anyone else interested, if we can arrange it. I would like to try again. It would have to be March or later, when we can have nicer weather and trek to the cemeteries. Is there a chance? And I know that my great-great grandfather Wm Thomas Nettles handed boards up to his grandfather Ashley, building the Hopewell Church, as his grandfather Isham Nettles spread the gospel throughout Louisiana. I have Isham's history back to Gloucester County, Virginia, 1668. Regards, Sherry Nettles(McDonough) Bearden Virgina Ewing <vewing65@ctesc.net> wrote: Thanks. I am trying to get my Ashley descendants book together and they turned up on the Nettles line. I had not done a lot of research on this line, since I couldn't prove William Thomas Nettles was the son of Elizabeth Ashley. I have learned William Nettles stories passed down in the family confirm William Thomas Nettles did have a grandfather Ashley. Any help with this family line would be appreciated. The book will go to the Family History Library in Salt Lake, and will probably be put on line. so I am working to get it as complete, and as correct, as I possibly can. 3. Hi Tina, As far as we have it, yes. The first Wm "Morgan" Nettles we spoke of married Elizabeth Ashley, both born South Carolina and their son, William "Thomas, " raised with the Ashley grandparents, grew up to marry an Elizabeth Ashley. Both Elizabeths died young. Sherry N. Bearden Tina Hall <thall451@comcast.net> wrote: I tried to follow this and got lost. There were two William Nettles who married two Elizabeth Ashley's????
