Thanks. I am trying to get my Ashley descendants book together and they turned up on the Nettles line. I had not done a lot of research on this line, since I couldn't prove William Thomas Nettles was the son of Elizabeth Ashley. I have learned William Nettles stories passed down in the family confirm William Thomas Nettles did have a grandfather Ashley. Any help with this family line would be appreciated. The book will go to the Family History Library in Salt Lake, and will probably be put on line. so I am working to get it as complete, and as correct, as I possibly can. Hi Virginia: Checking in again but am up to my ears "busy" and sick with winter colds, but feel the need to add to your research, if it helps. We discussed this before, but it is complicated and so from my side of the fence, here goes: From my research, my father's, who can still give names, dates and places, Encyclopedia of Founding Families of the Ouachita Valley of Louisiana and your information, William Morgan Nettles and Elizabeth Ashley m. 1809 Amite Co. and moved with his father Isham and other family to Rapides Parish, LA to continue preaching and establishing Baptist churches. Elizabeth died in childbirth in LA but their baby son, Wm Thomas Nettles was brought by his father back to the Ashley family in Wilkinson Co for care, where Susanna and his grandparents Ashley reared him. He married an Elizabeth Ashely, 1843; she died and then he married Sarah Ann Owens, 1846. They had a child among their children named after his father, William Morgan Nettles, b. 1851. who later married Mary Roland, 1881 The first abovementioned Wm Morgan Nettles first married Elizabeth Ashley, 1809. His second marriage was to Parthena Rowan, 1825. The William Thomas Nettles mentioned above, son of Wm and Elizabeth Ashley, first married an Elizabeth Ashley (cousin) in 1843. This Elizabeth died and his second marriage was to Sarah Ann Owens and they named one of their sons, William Morgan Nettles. I would still hope the future may hold a meeting with you and my father and me and anyone else interested, if we can arrange it. I would like to try again. It would have to be March or later, when we can have nicer weather and trek to the cemeteries. Is there a chance? And I know that my great-great grandfather Wm Thomas Nettles handed boards up to his grandfather Ashley, building the Hopewell Church, as his grandfather Isham Nettles spread the gospel throughout Louisiana. I have Isham's history back to Gloucester County, Virginia, 1668. Regards, Sherry Nettles(McDonough) Bearden Virgina Ewing <vewing65@ctesc.net> wrote: Thanks. So glad you wrote. I tried to call you several times but couldn't seem to get through. I was ill when I was over in Sept. My bloodpressure kept going up until it was spiking above 200 so I needed to get home to my doctor. I would have called then but my cell phone doesn't work from my apartment and the one I bought to work there was out of minutes. I do hope we can get together later. Sometimes March or after would suit me. I got back for my Daughter's wedding in Utah a few weeks back and am still trying to catch up. Have a lot of doctor appointments coming up but at least my bloodpressure seems to be steady now. I do appreciate the information. I always though William Thomas md his cousin, Elizabeth Ashley. Do you know her parents. I figured she was a daughter of Thomas Ashley and Sarah 'Sally' Day because they had a daughter in earlier census that I can't account for. Tina Hall said she might try to come for the Jersey Settlers reunion in April and, if so, I want to come over then. May come earlier and stay awhile if I can get away from here. My grand daughter is having a baby the first part of April but her husband is home so I won't be needed this time. Last baby he was in Iraq and I had to go help her out. Do you have an birth, death dates ofr William Morgan, father of William Thomas? Do you know what happened to them after he re-married. I didn't see them on the census in Wilkinson co. I will continue working on the Nettles line, as much as I can, and bring several printouts when I come. That way we can all compare and weed out my mistakes. I was very anxious to meet you and your dad but just did not feel well enough to think straight. I also had a truck rear end me on the way over, just not the best trip I ever made. Virginia marriage was to Sarah Ann Owens and they named one of their sons, William Morgan Nettles. > I would still hope the future may hold a meeting with you and my > father and me and anyone else interested, if we can arrange it. Hi Virginia, The best I have is William Morgan Nettles, b.1780-90 and 1785, Williamsburg, SC, d. 1840, lived in St. Landry and Caldwell Parishes, Louisiana. William is named with his father, Isham, Sr, his mother Anna Simmons Nettles, his sister Mary Humble, her husband James, as well as his sister Nancy and husband John McCollister and close friends as being in the group to enter and leave Baptist churches in Amite and Wilkinson Co. MS, moving on to do good work and on into LA, which was Isham's charge . William Morgan Nettles, father of Wm Thomas, must have continued the same work over into Louisiana with first and second wife, as his father did. I have yet to discover his death place but am eager. His sister Nancy and John McCollister died in Sabine Parish, LA, "1850 C Sabine Parish, LA, Fly. #361/362." I will continue this later, as it is late. Thanks again, to all who help place us in history. Sherry Nettles Bearden Virginia Ewing <vewing65@ctesc.net> wrote: So glad you wrote.
