If I have his death date, I could not find it. James Smith by 1st wife, Sarah Phipps, had a son Prestwood Smith. And although it does not show up on the Smith Family Tree, I have a note in my files from a respondent cousin that Zachariah Jr. named a son Augustine Prestwood Smith. I believe this was sited as from a deed there in Wilkinson Co. Augustine Prestwood may have been Frances Prestwood Smith's father, or relative in Anson Co., N.C. as there was a land transaction between him and Zachariah Smith before they left N.C. Another note I have indicates that Jame's brother William probably reared the young Prestwood. What do you think? A duel or a brawl between Prestwood and Wilson? The tree lists James' birthdate as Feb 16, 1764, so this Capt. Prestwood could have been his son or Zachariah jr's son if indeed he had another son born after the tree was made in 1820, which I question. At any rate, thank you for the additional information for the Smith files. >I don't have a death date but Zachariah Smith's will was filed for > probate the 13 Dec 1831. > >>From Mrs. Wiese's book on the Woodville Republican, issue dated 27 Sept > 1823, there is a note that Capt Prestwood Smith was killed by A.
