    3. Putting this marriage in my early Ashey research was a mistake. I was told by an elderly lady that John D. Ashley, who she called John Duncan Ashley 1st, was married to Elizabeth Sanders, daughter of George Sanders and Agnes Kelly and that George's original name was Pigg. That seems to be wrong as there was about 20 years younger than the other children, with none in between. Also, I later learned this Elizabeth Sanders was believed to have married Jordan/Jurdon Ashley of Kershaw Co., SC. They were the parents of the Jordan/Jurdon Ashley who married Sarah Sanders, grand daughter of George Sanders and Agnes Kelly. This Jordan/Jurdon Ashley and his family came to Mississippi and their descendant settled in Copiah Co., Mississippi.John D. Ashley and his wife Elizabeth were in Amite Co. MS in the 1820 census and in Wilkinson Co., MS in the 1830 census. I believe I found a tax record for them, or for a John Ashley, in Adams Co. in 1805 and a John Ashley settled a probate for his brother Thomas Ashley, 1804, Adams Co. MS. I don't know if this was my John D. Ashley but do know one of his daughters married in Amite county in 1809. I have not proven a marriage for this John D. Ashley, other than his wife's name was Elizabeth from her children's marriage records. One lady has written me that this John D. Ashley did marry an Elizabeth Sanders but she was the grand daughter of George Sanders and Agnes Kelly, not their daughter. She would be a first cousin to Sarah Sanders of SC and Copiah Co., MS. I am inclined to believe this but still do not know the parents of this John D. Ashley. Also, I have found nothing that gave his name as John Duncan Ashley, other than the word of the elderly lady, and I think she was confused. She was in her mid 80s when I knew her and did get confused on some of the names. One thing I will also mention here, I sent a copy of a picture of Sarah Sanders, wife of Jordan Ashley, to an distance relative and she called to say the woman looked exactly like her father. Her father was a descendant Jonathan Jasper Day and Isabel F. Ashley. Isabel was the grand daughter of John DUNCAN Ashley and Sarah Jane Adams. There are records to show that Thomas Ashley, whose probate was settled by John Ashley in Adams Co. MS, was the brother of Robert Ashley who owned the first public Inn in Port Gibson. This Robert Ashley was the nephew by marriage of Gen. Elijah Clark. famous for his leadership in the Hornets Nest during the Rev. War in Georgia. There is much research that needs doing on this John D. Ashley line. If I have confused anyone don't hesitate to write with questions. I have worked this line since 1974 and am still trying to find records that would take us back to John D. Ashley's parents. WITH PROOF.
