The Mays family seems frequently intermarried with Zachariah's offspring. James Smith (Zachariah and Francis' son) had a daughter by the name of Elizabeth by his third wife Francis Thompson who married Benjamin M. Mayes 21 May 1835 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. This family followed John Smith m. Elizabeth Kaigler (James and Sarah Phipps Smiths son) to Attakapas district where they got into court trouble over land deals in Wilkinson County Mississippi. As a result of that litigation Benjamin Mayes moved his family to Jefferson County, Texas. And yes Benjamin's first wife was Evelina Rebecca Smith daughter of Zachariah Smith Jr. and Sarah Kimball. They had 3 children that I know of William N Mayes, Augustin P. Mayes and Sarah Ann Mayes. John Smith the son of James and Sarah Phipps Smith was ever bit as court plagued as John Moses Smith son of William but it sure has made tracking them easier. Thanks!
