UPDATE!!!! Recently I posted a question concerning Louis W. Arnold b. abt. 1844 married to ALVIRA Shropshire b. abt. 1844 . Louis W. Arnold and Almira (Elmira) were married April 25, 1870 in Amite Co. * Then there was some discussion that the above Alvira could have been Elvira Leitha King b. abt. 1838 who married William Shropshire b. abt. 1828 on July 22, 1857 in Wilkinson Co., MS. * I replied with the answer that I was searching for a Alvira that was a Shropshire by birth not by marriage and that I didnt think the 2 women were the same. * The following are just a few of the records I found in the Woodville, Wilkinson Co. Courthouse records concerning these two: 1. ALVIRA Arnold petition for writ of dower. Petiition filed and rendered Nov. 15, 1871 2. In the matter of LOUIS & Elvira Arnold Guardians of heirs of Wm. Shropshire. Account filed Nov. 20, 1872. * So, I thought I was on the right track. Admittedly, the children of William Shropshire and Elvira Leitha King were Walter b. abt. 1858, George W. b. abt. 1865 and Thomas E. b. abt. 1857, with Louis W. Arnold and Elvira Arnold seeking Guardianship concerning these minor heirs. *BUT I WAS WRONG!!!!! * Today I discovered in the Wilkinson Co. Courthouse the following .. "The petition of Elvira Arnold formerly Elvira Shropshire of the county of Wilkinson, State of Miss shows that she is the ????and widow of William Shropshire late of said county now deceased who departed this life some time during the year 18 last dying intestate and leaving considerable ??? and personal estate in said county" Letters of administration of the estate were given to Jonathan Day and Elvira Shropshire Arnold was seeking one third of the estate. BUT THERE WAS NO DATE ON THE DOCUMENT!!! * It latter said "also upon Louis Arnold & Elvira Arnold the stepfather, mother and legal guardian of said minor defendants" .Dated March 16, 1872 * It never mentioned the exact date William Shropshire died!!!! The only thing I could find coming close to a death date was the following . * " To: Estate of Wm. Shropshire From: Levi Hastings, dated Jan. 1, 1868 To making one coffin for William Shropshire $20 To making one coffin for William Shropshire CHILD $10 Total due Levi Hastings $30 * NOW WHO WAS THE CHILD that died the same time William Shropshire did??? If anybody can tell me please do so. But I wanted to set the record straight immediately and I sincerely apologize for any miscommunication to the LIST. Brenda McCurley White
