    3. Martha B. Saunders md. Hiram Ashley in Wilkinson co., MS. She was said to be the daughter of Ira Saunders, but I haven't tried to trace this line. I am afraid the George and Elizabeth Sanders in the John Ashley Family history were a mistake. They where real alright, just not connected to this Ashley family. I was given that information back in the 1980 when I had first started trying to put the Ashley family together. It turned out that the Elizabeth Sanders, thought to be the wife of John D. Ashley, was probably the wife of Jordan Ashley and mother of the Jordan Ashley Jr who md. Sarah Saunders, Elizabeth's niece, [his 1st cousin] and moved to Copiah co. MS. The marriage of Elizabeth Sanders to John D. Ashley came from Ada Ashley Smith. She had been given it information by someone else and was just passing it along. It is known that Elizabeth Saunders did marry an Ashley but not our John D. This Ashley-Sanders/Saunders group where from Kershaw county. John Ashley of Kershaw co., SC md. Eleanor Duran and they moved to Buncombe City, NC, where John died and she filed for a pension, giving facts that leave no doubt that this is the Kershaw co. SC John Ashley. John D. and wife Elizabeth of SC, Amite and Wilkinson co. MS are a brick wall for me. I started the Ashley mailing list with the hope of finding someone who could solve this puzzle. That didn't happen. I do wish I could get all the copies of my early 'Descendants of John D. Ashley' book back. I printed out dozens of copies back in the 1980 and early 1990 and I know that many of them have been photocopied. I have no idea how many copies are still out there, being passed from person to person, and the mistakes going on and on.
