    1. [MSWILKIN] Researching BROWN & PHARES
    2. HI: I'm researching my great-great grandfather CHARLES BROWN. He was?found hanged in the Mount Pleasant section of?Wilkinson Co. in September, 1879 after being taken from the home of WILBERT PHARES. He was a carpenter and was building a house for Phares when he was killed. The U.S. Mortality Census says Brown was from MS and had lived in East Feliciana Parish, LA for 14 years. ? I'd like to find out whether Charles was from Wilkinson County.?I'm assuming he?was very likely a slave, although my grandfather told me that the Browns were from VA and were never slaves. I have found a Charles and his son enslaved on the McGhee plantation in Wilkinson in the 1860s but have no evidence that this was Charles and his father. Any tips as to how to research whether Charles was from Wilkinson Co. are appreciated. I'd also like to find out how long Charles worked for Wilbert Phares and whether he worked for other residents. Thanks, Kberry ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.
