Hi Virginia - I have been researching the Leake, Flowers, Rabb, Shropshire, Cavin, Carter, Felter, Beattie (Beaty, Beatty), Ashley, Day and other families that are connected. My brick wall however, seems to be my great great grandfather Dave R. Beaty (as it is spelled on his Confederate headstone in the Beattie Family Cemetery off of Carter Loop Road). We are unable to find out who his parents were. Also a puzzlement seems to be that he doesn't show up in any census until 1880. He was married to Mary Liza Felter and she seems to show up. He should have shown up in at least the 1850 (being born in 1847/1848), 1860, and 1870. I understand that the 1890 census is not available as it was destroyed by fire in Washington. That would have been the last one he would have been in. His wife however, showed up until the 1930 as she died in 1936. My great grandfather, Benjamin Walter Beattie, should have shown up in the 1930 but doesn't in any Miss census for that year. He and his family do for 1920 though. Thanks for all of the good work that you do to keep this mailing going. I for one enjoy it!
