Hi Barbara. You are correct that it is a completely different Perry line than Virginia's Perry ancestors. This John E. Perry was born in Louisiana in 1837 to John Oliver Perry and Elinor Brown. They came to Louisiana from Maryland, settling in East Feliciana Parish. Their son, this John E. Perry in question, married Catherine F. Miller on 09 Feb. 1860. I was only responding to the one line in Virginia's posting that read: "John E. Perry md. Catharine f. Miller 9 Feb 1860 not sure this is his marriage." Hope this answers what you were wondering about. To locate some material on your Noland family: Just for starters, use google.com [unless you have a better way to find this URL] to find bureau of land management. Then look for the link - general land office. [2nd entry with google.com] At the top you will find a tab *land patents* Check this and then enter Mississippi from the drop-down menu. Type in the name Pierce Noland [last name first, of course]. It seems more likely that your Noland's records may be found in a different county, although one should not rule out Wilkinson Co., MS at an earlier date. (My folks moved from Wilkinson Co. and from Feliciana Parishes, LA to Copiah Co., MS when the Choctaws ceded their land and the Federal government took over the land.). If you live near an LDS family history center, you might conduct some more searches on their subscription to Ancestry.com. Call up the center, ask their hours of opening, and then ask about Ancestry.com Good luck to you. Thanks for a well-structured query. So many people leave out dates--a bad mistake!!!! E.W.Wallace
This John Perry seems to be a different John Perry than Virginia is talking about. Since that John Perry is married to Eleanor Murphy and she was born in 1850 in SC. They moved first to Georgia (I don't know when or where) and wound up in Fort Adams, Wilkinson County, Mississippi. I have six children listed for them: 1. William F. (Field?) Noland (c.1780-1823) died at Woodville, Mississippi. 2. Jeremiah Noland (c.1781-1835) m. Jane Ogden in 1811, no children, died at New Orleans, La. 3. Philip Noland (c.1783-1836) married Mary Mayes in 1809, three children. I have a transcript of his will, died at Fort Adams, Wilkinson Co., Mississippi. 4. Pierce A. Noland (c. 1785-1842) married Nancy Palmer in 1809, lived at "Homestead," East Feliciana Parish, La., 9 children. 5. Sarah Ann Noland (c.1792-1829) married Dr. Adam Palmer, lived at East Feliciana Parish, La., 5 children. 6. Lydia Ellen Noland (c.1796-1865) m. William Tigner in 1820, 6 children, died at Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mary Field (c.1760-1846) was the first of eight children born to William Field, Jr. (b. before 1727, probably in Pa., d. 1805, Randolph County, NC) and his wife, Lydia (probably Lydia Elswick, b. 1743, Augusta Co., Va., d. circa 1829, Randolph Co., NC), who were my 5th great grandparents. I descend from their son, Jeremiah Field (c.1764-1830) who married Eleanor Sherwood (1776-1859) and remained in North Carolina. I'd be pleased to correspond with anyone who is interested in any of these folks, and would be most grateful for any information anyone could give me. Best Regards, John Field Pankow Asheville, NC
When coming from Rosetta the cemetery would be on the left side of the road and I haven't a clue to how far it is from Rosetta. I live in Texas and it has been several years since John Robert told me how to get to the graveyard. It is not on the side of the road but some distance down and around to get to it. I have the instructions written down somewhere. When I get back over I will see if I can find someone who knows if there are headstones. I think it was in 1827 that my uncle went there and he said he found it completely grown over with trees. I would not attempt to go there myself, I have seen the size of their rattlesnakes. The cemetery you are talking about is not at Nebo Park. Nebo is on the East side of Hwy 33. Perrytown is on the West side. I am not aware of any other park named Nebo. Nebo Park was abandoned years ago and still is as far as I know. I only recall two graves at Nebo, Reuben Cassels and one other, and I don't recall the other name off hand. I believe it may have been a Lusk(?). My grandmother's mother, Laura Annie Anders wife of Da vid Gober was buried there in Aug 1807. At the time my great Uncle, Charles Gober, her youngest son, was 7 years old. He told me he returned to his mother's grave in later years and found the graveyard grown up in trees with a tree, to big for him to reach around, growing out of his mother's grave. It was probably 1952 or 53 when he told me. He died in 1976. He often talked of Wilkinson co., where he grew up, but I had never gone there and didn't ask the right questions. I do remember he saying that they took his mother's body to a graveyard between where they were living and Rosetta. At her death, they were living in a house next to a cemetery owned by George Neal Ashley. Neal, his wife, and son are the only headstones there now. In the cemetery book it is called, Ashley 1. [and the birth/death dates are incorrect] At the time of Laura's death, her oldest daughter was married to George Neal Ashley. She was Neal's 2nd wife. I never understood why, when there was a graveyard next to there house, she wasn't buried there. It has to have been, either a cemetery of a church [which no one has ever mentioned to me] or a private graveyard of a relative. She was the daughter of John D. Anders and Martha Anne Redmond. A few years back I visited John Robert Murray, now deceased. John Robert, lived on the Perrytown Road, just past the Church of Christ and was borned and raised in the Rosetta area. He had me drive back toward Rosetta and stop near a house on the side of the road. He told me there was an old cemetery, taken over by trees, down an embankment there. He told me how to find it but suggested, since it is really rough country, that I ask the young men living in the house if there were any headstones, as they would probably know. No one seem to be home at the time and I forgot about it on later trips. Virginia
HI: What is the name of the oldest black church in Wilkinson Co., and how old is it? Thanks, Kberry

Mama died almost 2 years ago so anything else she knew is gone now. I will ask a cousin when I call him though. May get back with you after I call him. Thanks.
Virginia, You're right, don't think Martin knows his real age. But I do think the Martin Perry in 1870 Wilkinson Co. Census 1870 Wilkinson Co. Census Perry, Martin, 30, MW, farmer, $100/$150, MS --Caroline, 25, FW, keeping house, MS was married to a Caroline--Not Catherine. I can not find a marriage for him anywhere to a Caroline BUT I do think these are two separate women. Mainly because Martin didn't marry Catherine Sturdivant until 1872...and the above is the 1870 census. Also, look on the 1870 census again--Martin & Caroline are in household 1. But, in household #16 there is a Catherine Sturdivant, age 25 living with her mother Levicy and brother William H. Levisa (Levicy) was first married to Henry Oliver Sturdivant and 2nd married Joseph E. Price BUT, I guess that marriage didn't last long because it seems she took back her first married name. And Joseph E. Price is by himself in 1870 also. I THINK Martin was first married to Catherine Unknown in 1870, divorced her and married the above Catherine Sturdivant in 1872. Another reason, I think the above is in 1900 Wilkinson Co. Census... 1880 Wilkinson Co. Census, Perry, Caroline,WF, 32, SINGLE, housekeeper, MS, MS, MS --Minnie, WF, 12, daughter, MS, MS, MS --John M, WM, 9, son, MS, MS, MS --Sophronia, WF, 6, daughter, MS, MS, MS --Henry V.S., WM, 5, son, MS, MS, MS I believe this is the same Caroline Unknown that he divorced for Catherine Sturdivant. Notice she is listed as SINGLE. The only thing that throws a kink in this---is where was the daughter Minnie in the 1870 Wilkinson Co. Census--did they just miss her--she would have only been 2 years old??? I believe Minnie, age 12 and John M., age 9 to be the children of Martin Perry. But, I honestly believe Sophronia, age 6 and Henry V.S., age 5 to be Ogden's and the census taker ASSUMED them to be Perrys. Now what Ogden is the father--can't prove that either. The reason for this thought, is I believe the above Sophronia to be Ellen Sefronia Perry (Ogden) that married Thomas Duncan Ashley Oct. 10, 1893. Remember, in Thomas Duncan Ashley's obit it said "He was the son of the late Willis and Louisa Ashley. In early life he was married to FRONIE OGDEN". Even though we both know on the marriage records it is stating her name as Perry. Now where Martin Perry and Catherine Sturdivant flew the coop to in 1880--don't know--can't find them. But, of course this all speculation--I need some documentation--and it could start with finding a divorce paper for Martin and Catherine in Wilkinson County--will do my level best to see what I can find. If this is true, then there would be no record I suppose and the occupants names could forever be lost as far as identity.Bet there is some Sturdivants whose burial sites are there. Anyone know anything? Can say more but not enough room. Thanks.
