I don't think it is likely that he was connected to your Littleberry Thompson who came to Wilkinson Co. from Georgia in 1803. However, I like to keep track of the Thompsons in the Amite/Wilkinson Co. area just to try to keep them all straight. I would like to know which Wilkinson Co. Smith your Thompson child married, as we descend from Fredonia Smith who married Benjamin White. ".Some 38 miles south of Natchez was a high hill known first as "Roche a Davion" for a French missionary who established a mission there among the Tunica Indians in 1698, and then as Loftus Heights after 1764, when the British took over. The site was recommended by a Captain Guion, and the fort was built in 1799 after the arrival of General James Wilkinson as the commanding officer - the man for whom Wilkinson County was named. The engineering work was done under the direction of Major Thomas Freeman, who had been acting as surveyor of the boundary line between American and Spanish holdings. And the frontier post was named after John Adams, who was then president of the United States." "Mile High Cemetery" could refer to any of the oldest burial areas in the Fort Adams area. Patience Thompson (1782-1851) was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery on Sligo Road in Woodville. According to The Journal of Wilkinson County History cemetery records, there was a John Thompson (1781-1835) buried in Riverside Cemetery which is located in the Fort Adams area. I checked my listing of English Land Grant Recipients and found the only Hamilton to be HUGH HAMILTON who was awarded 500 acres, August 6, 1778. You might try the genweb sites for Adams County and the adjacent counties. Most have many records of the early settlers in that area. Good luck. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Jesse Hamilton established a plantation which was called Selser Plantation near Natchez, Mississippi, but I think that it no longer exits. I know that Jesse Hamilton was born in Virginia, I think that it is the Abdington, Virginia area, and he probably died in or near Natchez, Mississippi. I can understand using an alias for the internet, such as a mother's maiden name, but remaining anonymous??? How will you ever meet any cousins that way? One of the easier ways to find out if a family was lurking in or about one of the Feliciana Parishes [they were one in the beginning, or the American beginning!] is to use the BLM website to learn if any family members may have claimed land held by the Federal Government. This is the URL - type in the surname, in this case, Mulkey, and then the State, such as Louisiana, parts of which were in *american* terms Mississippi Territory in the beginning, _http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/_ (http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/) Check the wife's maiden name and any of the collaterals you know about. People did not in the beginning generally come as a single family. For protection, and in case of death of one of the marital partners, for chld care, etc. Some of the earliest settlers may be listed in American State Papers, some compiled by Walter Lowrie, but you almost need an index called Grassroots of America to use the land claims. Grassroots of America has been microfiched by the Family History Library, and it seems to me, each LDS Family History Center east of Florida and before Texas should have this microfiche. The author is Philip W. McMullin on the LDS website - _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) Check on the catalog--on the right side of the screen, almost hidden away If this microfiche is NOT at your local FHC, I highly recommend that you order it. Each fiche currently costs 15 cents apiece--cheaper than a US first class stamp!!! There are 6 microfiche of Grassroots of America. This is the number of the Fiche 6051323 These list the private claims to this land. I found my folks in Wilkinson Co., MS and in Feliciana Parish, LA in Grassroots of America [common surnames, but seven brothers and a brother-in-law and a father-in-law] and from there I was able to go the Gayles [spelling?] and Seaton version of American State Papers. These are hefty books, found in BIG libraries, such as University libraries. They were published for the US Congress. I found the names of his two sons, their mother and her new husband, in the probates. I do not have the date he died. Guardians for his 2 sons were appointed in 1924 and their mother had already remarried. He could have died several years before. The first Will book in Wilkinson county starts in 1925. Previous Wills were in the Accounts and Inventory books and I have not gotten through them all Many people died without a will and only the inventory of the estate, is available. A guardian had to be appointed for each child under the age of 21. Sometimes it was the same person for each child, sometimes not. The mother was generally not allowed to be the sole guardian but was sometimes allowed to share guardianship. If the deceased owned real-estate, slaves or cattle, there would be a probate. You can order these records on microfilm through your nearest Family History Center. That's what I do. I live in Texas and do most of my research by reading the microfilmed records.
