    1. Re: [MSWILKIN] DNA testing
    2. Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. My interest in DNA testing is to prove/disprove an "illegitimate lineage". I would need someone from the 'legitimate' line to take the test. It would be easy to locate them but I don't know if they would be willing as the mere mention of it back in the 1980s 'scandalized' the 'legal family. Wish me luck! Lucy > > From: thall451@comcast.net > Date: 2007/08/22 Wed PM 10:52:36 EST > To: mswilkin@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [MSWILKIN] DNA testing > > I have been involved in the Shelton DNA case study since 2001. We use Family Tree DNA as well. The cost is less if you are a part of a group. Lucy, as a female, you could entice a tester by offering to help pay for the cost. If you get a whole lot of cousins together, you may get others to help as well. I got enough cousins to pitch in for someone connected to my lines to test that we each ended up paying only about 20 dollars each. It made it easier on the tester and he also pitched in 20 dollars. > > I wish I could have gotten my brother to test prior to his death. 2. Information about DNA can be obtained at FAMILYTREEDNA. To see if your surname is already involved in the study, go to YSEARCH. Select "find by surname" (or words to that effect), enter the surname of your interest in the appropriate space and then click on "search." ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    3. Nancy, I am looking for the wife of Alexander McGinty, Sr. who was Mary Ann (possibly Orr). died in Mecklenburg Co. , NC in 1804. I know this is maybe way out of range for your Mary Orr, but if you ever come across earlier data, let me know, especially the "James Orr." I will look out for you as well. Also my Scots-Irish grandmother corresponded with a cousin, Jean Orr in PA (I think). I think they came from North Ireland from whence my Junkin family emigrated in 1874. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Henderson" <nnhenderson@comcast.net> To: "mswilkin" <MSWILKIN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 17, 2007 10:10 PM Subject: [MSWILKIN] Rodney orr Trembly > Hi.. > I am trying to find information on William Oscar Rodney . Mile High Hill: Littleberry Thompson The Foster/Ferguson Cemetery is on Morgantown Rd., N. of Natchez. James, Thomas, William, and John Foster (the latter of Wilkinson Co. and Texas) had a brother whose name we have not been able to discover, left daughter Nancy. William reared Nancy's orphaned children when she and spouse William Lum died. We firmly believe the Ambrose Foster in this cemetery is Nancy's brother, and Martha most likely another sister. The owner has forbidden us to clean the cemetery, although we have done so periodically through the years. It has been the victim of vandalizm (probably by her sons in their growing up years) in that a beautiful wrought iron fence and brick wall have been destroyed and at least one oblisk toppled over. We last cleaned it in April 2005. I even dug plants from my yard and took them to the lady, as she vowed years ago someone had sprayed and killed her garden. (Not true). she is just a crank. When I returned with an out of town visitor to show her the cemetery, the lady's son met me at the road and said I was not to come on their property. all reasoning and cajoling failed, so now an attorney is working on it. A descendant with whom I had contact in 1966, Lois Hines in Fairfield, CT, supplied the following: William Henderson md in SC, 1st Biddie Lea, 2nd Dorothea (?), had son John Henderson who married Martha Foster. Her records show Martha Foster was born 26 June 1781/ died 29 June 1836. the tombstone in our cemetery reads: "In Memory of My Mother, Martha Henderson, d. 29 June 1836, aged 61 yrs 8 mos. John Henderson received a grant for a tract of land that adjoins points of Thomas Foster's land on which this Cemetery is located, although we cannot prove the Thomas Foster connections. Bottom line, we are in a legal battle for ingress/egress and right to maintain this old cemetery which is probably about 60 ft from the public paved road at the edge of the present owner's run down, overgrown property. The cemetery and half acre around it was reserved with right of ingress/egress "for posterity" in an agreement between Ambrose Foster and Joseph Ferguson in 1850. It is assumed that Martha was Ambrose's sister. Any information? 3. Hi.. I am trying to find information on William Oscar Rodney . He lived in the Ft Adams area and was married to Mary E Trembly. They are listed on the 1850 census with their son John M and her mother Mary F Trembly. I know that he was a landowner and he died abt 1863 in LA .I don't know if he was in the military . He was listed as W O in most of his records that I have found. He came from Cape Giraudeau Missouri. Mary Trembly was the daughter of Mary Orr and John W Trembly from Natchez. They were in the 1830 Natchez census and she was in the 1840 census with her daughter.I know nothing abput John Trembl but I know that Mary Orr was the daughter of James Orr and Elizabeth Deloach. Her sister who married into the Mcknulty family is clearly listed up to the Baber family. I would like to know more about W O Rodney,Mary Trembly ,mary Orr and John Trembly...Any help would be appreciated...Nancy Henderson Working on Rodney,Orr Deloach ,Trembly,Reily, Williams

    2. Concerning early marriage records from practically any State, not just Virginia. If all State Libraries were as cooperative as the Library of Virginia in making copies of actual marriage bonds or records, that would be wonderful. A lesson I learned: When I first began genealogy, I was fortunate enough to have enough leisure to take some beginning classes sponsored by a local genealogical society. One of the instructions: Gather all the marriage records, birth records, death certificates/obituaries for your direct ancestors as possible. (This instruction saved me a LOT of work when I decided to join DAR--because I already had these documents for evidence of my direct lineage.) At any rate, one of my great-grandfathers, who lived ca 1816 in one of the Feliciana Parishes, Louisiana, had married across the State line, Mississippi, to a sister of his sister-in-law [all families originally of South Carolina and perhaps before that, who knows where?] I ordered from the Mississippi courthouse an uncertified marriage record of this couple. It came on a 20th century form--with the crossed out dates. Years later, now having some leisure in my life, I ordered film for that particular Mississippi county to my local Family History Center, . Among the documents I found on microfilm was the original marriage bond--with a good deal more information that the paid-for from the courthouse copy which I had received earlier. For example, the bondsman was soon to be another member of this rather large family!!! If you have some leisure in your life and are near a Family History Center, I highly recommend ordering whatever microfilms may be available for your PLACE [State, county, city], probably from Salt Lake City. Marriage records are cataloged in the FHL catalog [www.familysearch.org - go to the right side of the opening screen and do a PLACE search] under the topic Vital Records. Remember that phrase--Vital records. [This is principally for the United States. If searching English records, look under Civil Registration and also Parish Records, depending on the time.]. E.W.Wallace learning something new almost every day - genealogically speaking, that is!! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    3. Hi Honey, I don't know if you remember me or not, but we met in the Wilkinson County Courthouse. I was looking for more information on Joseph Adkins Henderson, and you had some pictures you shared with me. I was wondering if you had found out any more on him, other than what was in the courthouse? Clan Henderson has a DNA project, which I participated in. I asked for a 25 point match, and so far have had only 6 people that have the same markers I do. We have not established a common ancestor yet, but are hoping someone else from our group will come in with one. Please keep in touch, and as soon as I get any more information from the DNA I will let you know. Your Cousin, Warren Henderson

    3. Surnames: Scott, Bolls, Mayberry, Stewart Honey, If you are familiar with the Ft. Adams area I hope you can help with my search. My William Scott's family made a Land Claim to the US Senate February 15, 1827 to the Committee on Public Land. The purpose was to "reclaim 200 acres of land, obtained from Don Estevan Mire, Gov of the Province of Louisiana and certified by Wm. Vauadam, deputy surveyor under the Spanish Government(Nov 23, 1787). That 200 acres was "situated in the District of Natchez on the east side of the south fork and about 17 miles from the Fort on the Homochitto River." I need a contact with any one who is familiar with this part of Wilkinson County and has work land records of the county in that timeframe. I have not contacted my local LDS library yet. William & Clara Scott's daughter, Mary Elizabeth Scott Bolls, was my gggg grandmother. She had three siblings, Thomas, William and Gabriel. These siblings made and received the above claim with the US Senate. 3. Honey - I have some information on the Laneharts as they married into my family. I am researching the Beaty (Beatty, Beattie), Leake, Shropshire, Rabb, Lanehart, Enlow, Carter, Cavin, Flowers, Felter, Phipps, etc. families. I will be more than happy to share what I have. You can email me at cheyenne_143@msn.com. I am most interested in David R. Beaty (my great great grandfather) who married Mary Liza Felter. They are both buried in the Beattie Family Cemetery off of Carter Loop Road on property that is owned by Mr. W.V. Carter. His son Benjamin Walter (who married Leila McDowell) and his daughter Georgia (who married Henry Metcalfe & is buried along side of her) are also both buried there. My great grandpa Ben Walter's wife, Leila, is buried in a cemetery in Roxie next to her first husband, a Mr. Baker. I sincerely hope you might have some information to share with me. I look forward to hearing from you. Linda Kaye Beattie May >From: "Honey" <jamesvgross@bellsouth.net> >Reply-To: mswilkin@rootsweb.com >To: <MSWILKIN@rootsweb.com> >Subject: Re: [MSWILKIN] Ft. 3. Littleberry Thompson was my ancestor. His daughter Sarah married Chas. N. Wood (my line). I know where the old homesite was located top of mile hill, and where the cemetery is located (or was located- Story here). His wife Patience was buried in the Thompson plantation cemetery, but there is another story as to how her headstone became located in Evergreen Cemetey in Woodville. There is also a story about "mile high hill" which also is confused at times with the high hill in Fort Adams on which the Fort was built. I do know the location of plantation called "Walnut Grove". It might be the one someone was searching for not long ago. All this information was given to me by a friend before I subscribed , so I do not know exactly "who, what or where" everyone is searching for in Wilkinson County, MS.. I live in Woodville, and can go back 5 & 6 generations on most all of my ancesterial lines here in Wilkinson Co.. I am going for sugery next week, but will be glad to try and help whenever I get back on my feet, if anyone wishes to get in touch with me. Other Surnames I am interested in are: Wood, Thompson, Jennings, Henderson, Lanehart, Chisholm, Haynes, Harson, Posey, Cage and others. Thanks, Honey
