1. [MSWILKIN] 1880 Census online
2. Are the subscribers of this newletter aware that the 1880 census of the US is online (free) at www.familysearch.org Each person should check all ancestors who were alive in 1880 (and the neighbors too, who probably were uncles, cousins, in-laws, etc.) It is tricky to use. The census-taker as well as the transcribers of the index were careless in their spelling, not only of forenames but also of surnames. Do not give the search engine too much information, or it will get thoroughly confused. You can do this: use the first three letters of the surname and then add an asterisk (a wild card) And misspell the first three letters. Change the vowel if necessary, and sometimes P and B are mixed up. If you give the search engine too much information, it gets stubborn. Also, check out the neighbors. Some people tell me they search the community itself rather than a particular family. I must try that. E.W.Wallace

1. [MSWILKIN] Dewitt Jones
2. Anyone researching a Dewitt Jones? He would have lived from around 1840 on. I don't know anything else about him. This information was given to be by his great niece about 23 years ago in an interview. An interview, which I just found the notes on.Dewitt could have lived in some of the following counties: Wilkinson, Amite, Franklin, Copiah, Pike, Jefferson, or Adams. He would have had a brother named Austin Jones who was born in 1839 in probably Wilkinson County. Austin was in the 6th Ms. Infantry. He married Nancy Ann Walker. They were living in Franklin county, on the 1880 census. Thank you. Johnie

2. In case you are near an LDS family history center, you may order from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City MANY films of early Wilkinson Co., MS records. But do not overlook the adjoining Louisiana parishes--the families on both sides of the state boundaries intermarried. The catalog to the Fam Hist Library can be found on the lower right of this website: www.familysearch.org In that general vicinity on the webpage is a list of over 3,500 centers around the world. Perhaps one is in your neighborhood. E.W.Wallace

1. [MSWILKIN] Stafford Family
2. STACY MCSWAIN
3. I am beginning to find a fair amount of information on this family and it all revolves around Centreville in Wilkinson County, MS. Hartwell Stafford married Elizabeth Turbeville on March 19, 1828 and they had 6 children Samuel, William, James C., John F., Elizabeth Jane and Elijah M. The children were born in Wilkinson County between 1829-1843. I would like to know if anyone has anymore information on this family and the connected families. They appear to be very "rooted" in Wilkinson County. Stacy McSwain

2. Latina Flowers
3. Hello, Could someone please tell me the family relationship between the Rileys's of Wilkinson Co. and East Feliciana Parish, the same names keep appearing in both place (i.e.). John Y. Riley, Joseph C. Riley, Wesley Riley. However, the ages are different. I'm Researching Riley's of East Feliciana my g-grandfather Isaac RILEY (African American) lived their and it seem that when looking at the census of 1880 most of my family African American Riley's stated that at lease one of their parents came from Mississippi. I made the connection with Wilkinson County due to Isaac Reily (Slave owner of East Feliciana) his land records stated he came from Wilkinson County Ms. Thanks LaTina Riley-Flowers [email protected]

2. Virginia Ewing
3. At this time I am extracting the 'Inventory and Accounts" Book 1. 1806 - 1816. This book contains early Wills and inventories of people who died no later than 1816. It include the names of the living only if they where named as Administrators, guardians, bond maker, owed money to the deceased or he owed them, or the where mentioned as a buyer at an estate sale. I am not doing probates at this time but hope to get to them at a later date. It is my intention to work through the 1st Will book next. I don't mind you sending request for look ups on other records but it may be sometime until I get around to searching those documents. I am sending the look ups directly to the person making the request. If you don't hear from me, your person was not mentioned in this volume. 2. Dear Virginia, You have opened a Pandora's box, inviting us to send you names of persons who may have probates in Wilkinson Co., MS!!!! This is one of my interests in Wilkinson Co., MS - probate/administration of George Keller, Sr. who died in 1823. This is some brief information: Woodville (MS) REPUBLICAN of 5 Apr 1825 has this notice: Jane Keller, & G. W. Keller were appointed adm'rs of George Keller's estate. As noted in "George Keller Bible Record," George died in 1823. G. W. was called George, Jr. in the Bible Record. (Newspaper abstracts from O'Levia Neil Wilson Wiese, comp., THE WOODVILLE REPUBLICAN, MISSISSIPPI'S OLDEST EXISTING NEWSPAPER, V. I, [Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, various pages.) I shall write a separate e-mail for each person who MAY have died in Wilkinson Co. or perhaps its neighbor Feliciana Parish, Louisana (before it split in two parishes). E.W.Wallace (female)
