The Thomas Shropshire listed with Clarissa Ann Victoria Day and Charles B. King is the son of Elvira Lethia King and William Shropshire. Elvira being the sister of Charles B. King and thus making Thomas "a nephew". Clarissa and Charles King are my 2nd Great-grandparents. I would really appreciate more data on the Arnold marriage and the children of this union. BUT, please if I am wrong---Anybody--correct me!!!!! Elma Shropshire b. abt. 1893 was the daughter of Walter Shropshire b. abt. 1858 and Mary Rosa Elizabeth Cavin b. 1866. This was Walter's second marriage. His children were Elma & William Thomas. I found Elma Shropshire and William Thomas Shropshire on 1900 Wilkinson Co. Census to get birth dates. But after 1900 William Thomas just disappears. BUT, I JUST FOUND a Thomas Shropshire living in the household of C. B. King and Clarrisa Ann Victoria Day, age 20, labeled nephew. Maybe him, maybe not. Mary Rosa Elizabeth Cavin was the daughter of William Thomas Cavin Jr. b. 1841 d. Sept. 1914 AND Lucretia Ann "Lettie" MCCURLEY The above mentioned Walter Shropshire was the son of William Shropshire b. 1828 and Elvira Lethia King b. 1838. After Elvira's husband William Shropshire died she married my great, great grandfather Louis W. Arnold and had several more kids including my great grandmother Arra Rosalie Arnold who married Daniel R. McCurley. (Yes, I do remember thinking Alvira/Elvira Shropshire was a Shropshire by birth but not by marriage--I'm sorry for the mistake--but the Woodville Courthouse proved me very wrong). Thank you Jim for your update and replying back so quickly. If I can ever help you in your family search, please let me know--but remember I am a newcomer. After all, your name is Partin and my great grandmother was Nannie L. Partin married to Alexander Leake, so it's important to keep the connection going. Brenda, I have Elma Shropshire the daughter of Walter Shropshire (son of William and Elvira King Shropshire) and Mary Rosa Elizabeth Cavin (daughter of William Thomas Cavin, Jr. and Luticia Ann McCearley). Elma 'Elmie' had a brother William and a sister Alice. I too would be interested if someone has differing information. According to these entries in "The Woodville Republican" it looks as through Wm. McCrory died before November 25, 1843. If you can find Lucretia's marriage bond (I believe some of them have been filmed by LDS, but more research is needed to determine what years), it may state whether anyone gave consent--that is if she were underage. >> I did look at the marriage bond for Lucretia McCrony at the Woodville Courthouse on a previous visit and made the following notes that day. "After viewing the actual marriage records in Woodville, Wilkinson Co., MS--I believe this name to be McCrony not McCearley/McCurley. No where on the marria ge license did it falter or mis-spell the name. David Hubbard was the person who posted bond on the marriage and he would have been George Shropshire's Aunt Elizas husband. This also seems reasonable. The date of marriage is correct, I triple checked it." ALSO, 1850 Census lists Lucretia as age 23 living in the household with George Shropshire which would make her birth year abt. 1827. She married George Shropshire Sept. 10, 1846 which would have made her abt. 19 years old. Could Wm. McCrony have been deceased, instead of Lucretia his daughter? Hubbard may have 1) been either Lucretia's stepfather or 2) a relative on the mother's side--or??? If you can find Lucretia's marriage bond (I believe some of them have been filmed by LDS, but more research is needed to determine what years), it may state whether anyone gave consent--that is if she were underage. Some deeds of later years may show her selling off any real estate she may have inherited. Court records may reveal some info about guardianship. (The state was interested in protecting the property--not the physical state of the child.) My reading of a few records of Wilkinson Co. ca 1820-1830 indicate some wonderfully involved family relationships. The guardianship records may reveal more--such as in court records. Thanks for sharing these tidbits with us. I find that the men in some of my early Wilkinson Co. families (mainly Keller and Scott of adjoining Feliciana Parish) died off at rather young ages, leading to remarriages of the widows and entangled guardianships of the minor children. Brenda, Do you have any additional info on NWW Brown. This is the first I have seen of a gaurdian and the Crisp name associated with Nathan William Wiley Brown. We had thought that George Brown was his father and Racheal Harris was his mother. I have been told that George Brown's will if filed at the Wilkinson County court house but have not seen it. Any info you have would be helpful.
