Matthew married Eliza Smythe/Smith (b. 1803 in SC; daughter of James Smythe and Nannie Nair Hunt; d. after. 1870, possibly Yalobusha Co. MS). McCrary/Smythe marriage - 1822, St. Clair Co. AL. Per the 1850 Tippah Co. MS census, Matthew & Eliza had the following children: James C., b. 1823, AL Jane, b. 1829, AL Thomas R., b. 1832, AL; d. June 2, 1862, Grenada, MS William E., b. July 21, 1833, AL; d. Feb. 13, 1924, Shelby Co. TX Samuel, b. 1835, AL Nancy, b. 1838, AL Harriet, b. 1840, AL Eliza, b. 1842, MS Smith Sanford "S.S.", b.April 14, 1845, MS; d. Mar. 30, 1920, Water Valley, Tom Green Co. TX At least 3 of Matthew & Eliza's boys served in the CSA. Descendents of these 3 brothers can provide documentation to the current generation.
