There is a reference to my 2nd great-grandfather, James Morris SUTTON, and this island on pages 65-67 and page 243. In James' will, I make the name of the island to be "Mare's Head Island" and it was to remain in his estate. All my records are in a storage room in another town, so I cannot give you the exact information about the island. Mr. IREYS tells how the heirs of James' estate had filed a lawsuit against Arkansas and Mississippi, in order to lay claim to the island if it surfaced in the future. My sister has a project going and is checking with people in Greenville and Washington County about the location and history. I will let you know of any info received. If you can find the book by the Washington County Historical Society, you may find info on your GIBSON family, as the book is indexed. Mr. IREYS' memoirs are rather gossipy. Good luck in your research.
