Brenda and list, I'm STILL searching for the parents of the following children who appear on the 1850 Census, Tishomingo Co., MS, with a Melinda RIGGS. Most of them later migrated to TN, Decatur Co. area. Family legend says a Jesse RIGGS, b. abt 1802, AL was the father. 1. Henry RIGGS, b. abt 1826, AL; m. M.E. HILL. 2. William George RIGGS, b. 11 Mar. 1828, Birmingham, AL; d. 31 Mar. 1909, Holladay, Benton Co., TN; m. Sarah Evelyn JENKINS. (In 1868 Wm George was appointed as a Magistrate of Decatur Co., TN and served 2 years after which he became a deputy sheriff--from Decatur Co. Court Records provided by Phyllis Hill.) 3. Thomas J. RIGGS, b. abt 1829, AL 4. Isaah Calvin RIGGS. b. Feb. 1834, AL; d. after 1910, Decatur Co., TN; m. N.C. abt 1852, Tolitha TAYLOR, and Amanda A. TAYLOR, 15 Dec., 1870.(He was my gr grandfather.) 5. Mary J RIGGS, b. 15 Sept. 1838, Lawrence Co.,AL; d. 20 Aug. 1884, Decatur Co., TN; m. W. Henry GRAHAM. 6. Samuel W. RIGGS, b. 4 June, 1839, Lawrence Co., AL; d. 12 May, 1902, Decatur Co., TN; m. Louisa J. TAYLOR, 1856, Margaret J. HILL, abt 1869, Mary J. BRYANT. He was a member of the 38th Assembly serving Decatur and Hardin Cos. from 1873-5. 7. Sarah A. RIGGS, b. abt 1841, Lawrence Co., AL. No husband found yet for Sarah, but her 3 sons, Bell Andrew, John Cass and Frank also have the surname, RIGGS and were born in TN. Any help is gratefully appreciated.
