Brenda: Thank you for your tireless efforts in a demanding, thankless job. I monitor the site in hopes of uncovering more of what is really a depth of information on my Vaughan family there. I noticed Sandra's mention of the name Shook; one J.H. Shook was a among a number of Tish CO residents who vouched for my g-grandfather's Civeil War pension applied to the state of Texas in 1923 (which was ultimately approved). I have also noted the name of one C.C. Shook, listed as first mayor of Belmont. For your information, my late mother left me with a quaint little "Pixie Album" compiled by James T. Vaughan, a younger brother of my g-gf Samuel A. Vaughan containing mostly Tish CO family members, but several apparently unrelated locals intrigingly including one E. W. Carmack. As near as I can ascertain this Carmack founded in 1844 the Euclid Academy south of Jacinto which was in 1870 relocated to the courthouse once it was closed. I believe James T. was a school teacher in Belmont, which would explain a possible friendship with Carmack? Other family names (and photos or tintypes in the album) includes McRae, Reagan, Moody, plus Wells and Roland. Carmack, McRae, Moody and Vaughan were names found at the UMiss library as members of CO A, 2nd Miss Inf. Reg. In addition, several of the other signatories on the pension petition crop up in local Tish history. If anyone is interested in these and other names or care to see the pictures from the album, I will be happy to put them on line. Two of my cousins have made direct contact with remaining Vaughan connections down your way, but I haven't yet ventured east of Oxford. Richard, how interesting! I am sure that you will receive some requests for sharing; this is a gold mine!! If you ever decide to make a CD of the pix, our Tishomingo County Archives would be most gracious to receive one in order to share with those who visit the Archives here. Thanks again, and please continue on the list!
