There certainly were a great many SMITH families in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, descended from a Richard Smith from Cumberland County, NC..... I would like to inform those of you researching the SMITH families of Northeastern Mississippi about the Southern Smith family DNA Reconstruction Project at: http://www.southernsmiths.org/dna/dnaresults.htm We need direct SMITH males from Northeast Mississippi to participate in the testing. I recommend they order the 25 marker test, as it helps to "narrow the field" in determining the number of generations to a matching participant's common ancestor. I took the 25 marker test and the results from my kit number, 17331, are posted on the above site. I believe this is one of the greatest tools ever for Genealogists.
