Karen, since we're on the subject, let me take this opportunity to share. Some time back, I asked our Circuit Court Clerk (where marriage licenses are stored) about the availability of a copy - not a certified copy - but just a copy - of marriage licenses. She said that her office would be happy to make a copy for $10.00 and a SASE. Now, beware: be sure to tell them that you want a copy - like lay the original license down on the copy machine - because I ordered one from another county, sent my $10, and got a 2004 marriage license form with my ancestors names written in and the date (2004) marked thru and 1915 written above it!! Well, this was definitely not what I wanted and for all genealogy purposes, I am sure that is not what you want either. I asked our county clerk and she said that was the way a certified copy was made. All of this to say - be sure to tell them you want a copy of the original. Brenda, I appreciate your information.. I called this afternoon and talked to a lady in the Circuit Clerk's office. She told me a certified copy, which I need, would be $10.00. That I need to put it in writing and send along with a $10 check. Thank you so much for looking out for me. Some people just do not take pride in their job anymore. If you pay $10. you need to get a copy of the original and not a made up certificate. Enjoy your night.
