Tombstones versus transcriptions? I think both are valuable and often necessary. I have lots of photos of my ancestors' stones, and they provide lots of good information and an unmatchable sense of place. Sadly, however, the stone is not always easy to read, especially in a photo and especially if the stone is old and weathered. Inscriptions which may be clear to a person actually on the site, able to touch the stone, trace the letters "by feel," and see at close range---such inscriptions may not always be clear in a photo. The work of many inscription readers in the past has preserved much long lost physical data in cemeteries. A website that includes both forms of information together would be invaluable.
