Lisa, my Dad's family was in Itawamba/Tishomingo Co. area from about 1830 on. I was intrigued by the idea that families from the area would be related to most or all of these, so I checked my database: Adelaide MURPHY (b 7 Jul 1913) m Roy Mathias Estes (b 18 Jul 1908, d Nov 1954) on 26 Oct 1935. Roy was the son of William Marlden Estes & Ida Lindsey Billingsley, a 1st cousin to my grandfather Walter Meeks Lindsey. Probably not a related surname, but James S MURPHREE (b c1800 SC, d 27 Aug 1874 Itawamba Co. MS) m Nancy Fowler (b c1800 NC, d 1867 Itawamba Co. MS). Their son William MURPHREE (b c 1830 Blount Co. AL) m Nancy Jane Franklin (b 1826 AL) on 10 Dec 1846 in Itawamba Co. MS. Nancy Jane was a 1st cousin once removed to my g-grandfather John Micajah Lindsey. A dau. of James and Nancy, Mary Jane MURPHREE (b 1827 AL) m James Owen Franklin (b 24 Jan 1824 Jefferson Co. AL, d 10 Jul 1870 Itawambe Co. MS). James Owen was a 1st cousin to my g-grandfather John Micajah Lindsey. John PARSONS m Catherine Davis 2 Apr 1835 in Jefferson Co. AL. I don't know for sure that Catherine was related to my Davis family, but it is possible considering the time and place. "My" Davises moved to Mississippi shortly after the Lindseys did, and several marriages took place between the children. No WAKINS in my database, but if you mean WATKINS, then I have a long line of them from Thomas Watkins (b c1700 Henrico Co. VA) down to Jemima Owens Watkins. Her daughter Phoebe Dejarnette Ingram married Abner Young Howell, and their daughter Emma Dean Howell was my g-grandmother. She and A Y Young lived for many years in Lee Co. MS. Their dau. Emma Dean Howell m Jordan Levi Turnage, a Baptist preacher, teacher and state legislator. Emma and Jordan were my g-grandparents. Sarah A WILLIAMS (b 24 Jun 1846 MS, d 2 Feb 1908 in Corinth, Alcorn Co. MS) m John Micajah Lindsey, my g-grandfather. Her parents, Aaron Manship Williams and Margaret Overcast? moved to Mississippi from Alabama, having moved there from Tennessee. The only GEORGEs in my database were from an earlier time and other states. No WARHURSTs or CAGLEs in my database. Margaret Lindsey Smith
Margaret: Thanks for your reply; If you have a copy of the The Tishomingo County, MS History and Families book, on page 430. There is a Murphree/Murphy family history submitted by Cecil Lamar Summers and Gladys Kennedy Summers. If you do not have the book, send me a email to lisacs231@yahoo.com and I will sent you all the information in the article. The book, it self is out of print. I believe But I am almost postive, it is on disc and for sale at mstishom In the article, The Murphree/murphy family and descendants seems to have lived in the area from the Franklin/Marion County, AL line to Iuka. I do not see any names to match the ones in your email. But it is the same general area your Murphrees was in. One family, Hyram Marion Murphree and wife Susan Waldrep is buried in the Chastain Grave yard in the northeast part of Itawamba County. Wadkins and Watkins is different spellings of the same surname.. The Cagles and Halls came to Tish County from Itawamba County, MS /franklin county. Al The Allen Nelson Parsons family is documented back to Cobb County, GA. She many not be related to yours , but there is a Delphia Ann Davis, who was JG Boothe's second wife. Her parents was Enos and Sarah Powell Davis. It is believed, but not documented, Sarah Powell [Davis] and Martha Jane Powell were sisters. Martha Jane Powell was JG Boothe's first wife. Enos Davis [circa 1800] is believed to be born in GA, but not documented Thanks for the reply because what I cannot use,, I may be able to pas it on to some one else who needs it.
