I have no tangible idea why my SMITH went to Arkansas, he married in 1858 and was found in AR after that. He was a soldier, there are write ups about him. Its a family verbal history and sounds suspect ----- Original Message ----- From: George Pearson To: mstishom@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 1:57 PM Subject: Re: [MSTISHOM] Migrations from Tishomingo to Arkansas no one knows for sure, but I have seen data and heard stories that suggests the railroad reached Burnsvillle about 4-6 years before it came to Iuka. There is stories of the railroad having a turntable in Burnsville. Part of the data, I seen was an old map of rail lines in 1855. The map recorded the railroad stopped at Burnsville. One of the stories was, a Murphy family paid 100 dollars each for 3 railroad cars to travel to Texas in 18852-54. One passenger car, one flat car for the family wagon and other items and one lifestock car. I do know there was a mass migration westward from Tishomingo County, MS during the same time frame Wona Chennault <lyllye1@yahoo.com> wrote: I'd like to know if anyone knows anything about any migrations from Tishomingo to Arkansas around about 1850 to 1860? I know that sometimes these migrations occured because of territory opening up for homesteading, Was wondering if there is anyone out there that could give me a brief history on that and if there is anything recorded that would tell more about that sort of thing? You might check to see if he served in the War with Mexico. I had an ancestor who received bounty land for his service. He moved from McMinn County, Tennessee to Howell County, Missouri, and then migrated a county down to Fulton County, Arkansas. <quote who="Nina Harkey"> > I have no tangible idea why my SMITH went to Arkansas, he married in 1858 and > was found in AR after that.
