I have two notes from a fellow Murphy researcher, about John D John D's Daughter Adeline living with her sister, Susan Huffman and recorded in the Blackland PO, 1860 Tishomingo Census. 1950 Tishomingo County Census, Southern District, House 376 John D age 35 farmer, SC Margaret 24 TN Rachel K 12 TN Martha 11 TN Wm B 10 TN Susan 9 TN Daniel W 8 TN Adeline 7 TN James 6 Elitha 3* * Not sure Elitha is John D's Daughter because her name of Elitha Elishu does not fit in the pattern of names used by John D. Lisa Since the Murphy family has been a recent topic on this list I thought I would see if anyone has any further information on this Murphy family. John D. Murphy was born about 1813 in Newberry County, South Carolina, the son of Ephraim Murphy. His family came west with many others on a wagon train that settled in Wayne County, Tennessee, Lauderdale County, Alabama and Tishomingo County, Mississippi in the 1820s. He was married about 1837 in Wayne County, Tennessee to Sophia Ann Davis, born in 1820 Laurens County, South Carolina, daughter of William B. Davis and Elizabeth Long. Their children were: 1. Rachel Kissiah Murphy, b. 1838 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 16 Oct 1854 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to William Brusnehain. 2. Martha R. Murphy, b. 1839 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 20 Oct 1857 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to John Lynch. 3. William B. Murphy, b. 1840 Wayne County, Tennessee. 4. Susannah Murphy, b. 1841 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 11 Aug 1859 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to James F. Huffman. Sophia Ann Davis Murphy died about 1841 in Wayne County, Tennessee. John D. Murphy was second married 1841/42 in Wayne County, Tennessee to Margaret_________, born in 1826 in Tennessee. Their children were: 1. Daniel W. Murphy, b. 1842 Wayne County, Tennessee. 2. Adeline Murphy, b. 1843 Wayne County, Tennessee. 3. James Murphy, b. 1844 Wayne County, Tennessee. 4. Elihu Murphy, b. 1847 Wayne County, Tennessee. 5. Susan Murphy, b. 1847 Wayne County, Tennessee. 6. Thomas Murphy, b. 1850 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 7. Melvina Murphy, b. 1853 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 8. Jane Murphy, b. 1855 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 9. John Murphy, b. 1857 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 10. George Murphy, b. 1859 Tishomingo County, Mississippi.
