Brenda: I was told, any one who was born east and south of Iuka was kin to the Murphys, Nunleys, Parsons, Wakins, Williams, George, Warhurst, Cagle and many more. Most every researcher has from 1840 to the present time well documented, but from 180 back is very little to go on. I have the Hall family tree documented, but looking for related surnames like Higginbottom, Ida Higginbottom wed John E Boothe. Ida's brothers and sisters are listed on the 1894 school records in their stepfathers house hold. But I have nothing to document Ida being in the family except good solid family history. John E Booth is listed with His brother Walter in their fathers [John G Boothe] household on the 1894 school list. What makes genealogical research very interesting and exciting is, in the JG Boothe household on the 1894 school list is a female, Boothe I age 16. Well, John G Boothe and his wife Delphia Ann Davis did not have a dauthter, only two sons. In the 1900 census, John E Boothe and Ida Higginbottom is recorded as being married 6 years, which would be 1894. Oh well, does lead to some interesting ideas. John Gilliam Boothe, do not know any thing about him before appearing in Tish county except the census records his birth to be in VA. Neither do I know anything about his wife, Martha Jane Powell from VA. Thanks for your commets since I have never been to Tishomingo County. You may know my connection to Tish County, George Pearson. Hi, Since this list has now become active I'll ask if anyone has ever gotten church records from the Old Bethel Church. I am kin to the Bennett's buried out in that cemetery. A church record could confirm that my ancestor, Issac M Bennett and his father, Frances M Bennett, are buried there. The church building there now is new so I'm wondering if they have the old records from the 1870's. Anyone know if they do? Who would I need to contact? Thanks! Jon P.S. I'm in Booneville and I am willing to look through these records myself.
There was no Prentiss County in 1866. At that time, the area was all Old Tishomingo County. In 1870, the land was divided into Alcorn, Tishomingo, and Prentiss counties. ________________________________ From: mstishom-bounces@rootsweb.com on behalf of Jackie Ford Sent: Wed 5/23/2007 9:58 PM To: mstishom@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MSTISHOM] Surnames I've been looking for a couple of years for my great grandfather Guy Edwin Wilson who is supposed to have been born in Booneville, Printiss County, MS April 10, 1866, married Ida Jane Hardin from Franklin County, AL, migrated to east TX in 1892. Bobbie, as far as I know, not as of now but maybe so in the future. Another good way to keep up with county obits is to look thru the Tupelo Daily Journal site http://www.djournal.com/pages/default.asp as they cover all of our area; copying and pasting make it great to get an obit into your genealogical software; I use Family Tree Maker and paste in the "notes" section of the individual. I've been looking for a couple of years for my great grandfather Guy Edwin Wilson who is supposed to have been born in Booneville, Printiss County, MS April 10, 1866, married Ida Jane Hardin from Franklin County, AL, migrated to east TX in 1892. His mother was Fannie Setliff/Settle/??, father is unknown. Guy had 2 brothers, Will and Claud. The family is 'supposed' to have to gone to MS from TN. have searched censuses for all states around there for the boys with mother Fannie. ANYTHING anyone might have would be mightily appreciated. She's done a lot of searching of Murphy/Nunley/Farris lines. I didn't know when James was born so thank you for the info. Teresa Cook Keel
Hey Jon Sure hope you find your info you need as you have always been so wonderful in helping me and others in researching. Linda Jonathan Phillips <joblph82@hotmail.com> wrote: Hi, Since this list has now become active I'll ask if anyone has ever gotten church records from the Old Bethel Church. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MSTISHOM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Linda Miller 302 Mississippi Hot Springs, AR 71901 --------------------------------- Get the Yahoo! toolbar and be alerted to new email wherever you're surfing.
Bobbie That's also where my branch of the Cook family tree went to. They probably went there just after the Civil War as best as I can tell. I didn't know about a train though and am very glad that you mentioned it. Thanks!! Surnames of Maloch and Harvey. I have noticed some old records, marriage 1842 and old school records spelled as Malock. The time period fits perfect. Can anyone help. Thanks, Marc ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
