    2. Brenda Whitfield
    3. Tishomingo County, MS, originally included what we now know as Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties - sometimes referred to as Old Tishomingo County - with the division being in 1870. We have the marriage records from the beginning of the original county back in 1836 thru 1920. Also, I noticed in a marriage notice a few days ago that a marriage retrieved from ancestry.com documented a marriage in Alcorn county in 1867; there was no Alcorn county until 1870 which meant that this marriage actually took place in old Tishomingo county. You know how genealogists are; got to have the facts straight!!! 2. Hi, I am excited to hear from you. I have just gotten back last night and have not had time to go over all my papers I copied but this is what I have so far when I left. Josephine L. Sargent married George W. Goins , son to Washington Joshua and Hannah Ramsey Goins . They married on April 09, 1883 in Colbert Co. AL. He died Feb. 25, 1926, ( I need to double check this date when I go though my papers) She died Dec. 11, 1923. They are both buried in the Crooked Oak cemetery near Tuscumbia in the Crooked Oak Town. I will write later, my grandkids are on there way haven't seen them in two weeks, long time for me. Carol ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Karen, Micajah C Lindsey and Elizabeth McClurkin were the parents of the Mary Lindsey who married David Franklin. There is a large group of Lindsey researchers trying to pinpoint the next generation back - DNA evidence indicates that all of the Lindseys who were in Rutherford Co. NC in the late 1700s-early 1800s were related. We think that Micajah's father was a James Lindsey, and his mother a Mary Carlton, but this is as yet unproven. If that is the case, then James' parents may have been William Lindsey and Jane ? I will be in NC, SC and VA this fall hoping, among other things, to get more evidence one way or the other. Here is what I have, from William through Micajah's children, keeping in mind that the first two generations (William and James William) are most definitely NOT proven: 1 William Lindsey b: Virginia .. +Jane ? .. 2 James William Lindsey b: Virginia d: North Carolina or South Carolina .... + Mary Carlton b: Virginia d: 04 Apr 1837 South Carolina; Spartanburg Co. 3. if she marred in 1890 in tish county, there is a record of it at the Mstihom shapiro <shapiro@stic.net> wrote: Martha Churchill was born ca. 1849 in TN. First census she is found on is 1880. She is living in Iuka, Tishamingo Co. MS. She is widowed. She is a cook in a household unrelated to her ( to my knowledge). Only one of her 2 daughters is listed with her on the census. According to family oral history, she had married ca 1870 in TN a Miles, who had fought for the Union. They had 2 daughters and he died before 1880 from a fall from a horse. Martha remarried in 1890 in Iuka to William Woodall of Morgan Co. AL. No mention of a second marriage was ever passed down in the family history. I have the death certificates for both daughters. Father on each is listed as unknown Miles. Her daughter, Elizabeth Belle Miles married Ernest Lee Dunn in Lee Co. MS Her daughter, Annie Pauline Miles married Robert Ledbetter of Lee Co. MS but they married in Lamar Co. AL. Do not know why they married there. Do not know how she met Wm Woodall in Iuka as he lived in Morgan Co. AL. Anyone with any suggestions to find more info on Martha, I would be most appreciative. 3. Jerry; Thanks for the Information about John D Murphy because he was one of many Murphys to appear in Tish County in the same time frame. I have two notes from a fellow Murphy researcher, about John D John D's Daughter Adeline living with her sister, Susan Huffman and recorded in the Blackland PO, 1860 Tishomingo Census. 1950 Tishomingo County Census, Southern District, House 376 John D age 35 farmer, SC Margaret 24 TN Rachel K 12 TN Martha 11 TN Wm B 10 TN Susan 9 TN Daniel W 8 TN Adeline 7 TN James 6 Elitha 3* * Not sure Elitha is John D's Daughter because her name of Elitha Elishu does not fit in the pattern of names used by John D. Lisa Since the Murphy family has been a recent topic on this list I thought I would see if anyone has any further information on this Murphy family. John D. Murphy was born about 1813 in Newberry County, South Carolina, the son of Ephraim Murphy. His family came west with many others on a wagon train that settled in Wayne County, Tennessee, Lauderdale County, Alabama and Tishomingo County, Mississippi in the 1820s. He was married about 1837 in Wayne County, Tennessee to Sophia Ann Davis, born in 1820 Laurens County, South Carolina, daughter of William B. Davis and Elizabeth Long. Their children were: 1. Rachel Kissiah Murphy, b. 1838 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 16 Oct 1854 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to William Brusnehain. 2. Martha R. Murphy, b. 1839 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 20 Oct 1857 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to John Lynch. 3. William B. Murphy, b. 1840 Wayne County, Tennessee. 4. Susannah Murphy, b. 1841 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 11 Aug 1859 Tishomingo County, Mississippi to James F. Huffman. Sophia Ann Davis Murphy died about 1841 in Wayne County, Tennessee. John D. Murphy was second married 1841/42 in Wayne County, Tennessee to Margaret_________, born in 1826 in Tennessee. Their children were: 1. Daniel W. Murphy, b. 1842 Wayne County, Tennessee. 2. Adeline Murphy, b. 1843 Wayne County, Tennessee. 3. James Murphy, b. 1844 Wayne County, Tennessee. 4. Elihu Murphy, b. 1847 Wayne County, Tennessee. 5. Jane Murphy, b. 1855 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 9. John Murphy, b. 1857 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. 10. George Murphy, b. 1859 Tishomingo County, Mississippi. There could be more children in the second family. The family moved to Tishomingo County, Mississippi between 1847-1850. Any further information will be appreciated. Jerry W.
