    1. [MSTISHOM] HALL & WORD Families in Tishomingo County, MS
    2. Becky Smith
    3. Hi, Everyone -- First -- thanks, Brenda for being our list administrator! I wish you much enjoyment and fulfillment and especially fun as list admin! I have two main families (HALL & WORD) in Tishomingo Co, MS. James Dickenson WORD, Sr. who was born 17 March 1797, Surry Co, NC; died 30 May 1890 in Iuka, Tishomingo Co, MS; married (1) Miss FALKNER -- (Nancy, I think) and (2) my 3rd great grandmother Amelia Monroe "Milly" HOOPER who was 1st married to John Sevier CLARK, my 3rd great grandfather. Milly's 2nd husband James Dickenson WORD, Sr., was my 1st cousin 5 times removed. Milly had three daughters with her first husband and nine children with her second. Ruth Ann Goodwin CLARK, daughter of Milly HOOPER (above) & her 1st husband, John Sevier CLARK, married Fenton B. HALL and they are my great, great grandparents. They moved to MS in 1848 from Anderson Co, SC, and settled in Tishomingo (became Alcorn in 1870) County. Their last four (of 13) children were born in MS. CHILDREN of Fenton B. HALL & Ruth Ann Goodwin CLARK: William Clark born 1832, SC, MAYBE m. Penelope Perry; supposedly moved to TX & never returned (wife's name is speculation) Mary A. born ca. 1833, SC, MAY have married a PADEN. Elizabeth "Lizzie" born 29 July 1835; m. 30 Sep 1856, Tishomingo Co, to John H. WARREN Eliza B. "Liza" born 11 Jan. 1836, SC; d. 4 Sep 1922; m. after 1860, prob. Tish Co to Richard (or Alfred?) DILWORTH Chesley (male) born ca. 1838, SC, was living in 1850 in Tish Co but not found after that. I suspect he died young, between 1850 and 1860. Andrew Jackson "Jack" born 12 Mar 1839, Anderson Co, SC; d. 21 Oct 1917, Natchez, Adams Co, MS; m. Valeria Rebecca "Valley" HUNTINGTON; had one son, one daughter Perlina L. "Pina" born 15 Jun 1841 in SC, d. 13 May 1925, Kossuth, Alcorn Co, MS. Never married. Permelia "Melia" born 1842-43 in SC; died 1914, Lee Co, MS; m. 25 Sep 1866 in Tishomingo Co, MS, to James Alpheus JONES & had Mattie Erwin, Mary Loula, William Fenton "Will," Judson Luther, Whitfield Hall, Jackson B. "Jack," Charles Octo, Jesse Halbert and Effie Clifton. Florence Miller born 1847, Anderson Co, SC; died 1929; never married. Buried in Lee Co, MS Jestiana "Jette" born 11 Jul 1850, Tishomingo Co, MS; died 6 Apr 1914, Tishomingo Co, MS; m. (after 1880) Hartwell Brown HILLIARD; had one son, Fenton Brown HILLIARD. Buried (Old) Corinth City Cem., Alcorn Co, MS. Virgil Miller (my great grandfather) born 11 May 1852, Tishomingo Co, MS; died 15 Jun 1914, Kossuth, Alcorn Co, MS; m. Sarah Jane "Sallie" TIGERT on 30 Jan 1885; 3 daughters. Fenton Clinton "Clint" born 1855, Tishomingo Co, MS, twin to Matt, died in Baldwyn, Prentiss Co, MS. Never married. Lived w/nephew Will JONES. Matthew Franklin "Matt" born 1855, Tishomingo Co, MS, twin to Clint, died Chicago, Cook Co, IL; m. on 7 Feb 1888, Alcorn Co, MS to Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" BORROUM. I think they had a son named Beverly. Matt also worked in Memphis, TN & Louisville, KY as a piano salesman. Notes: Ruth Ann Goodwin CLARK was a granddaughter of Col. William H. CLARK (who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain, Rev. War) and his second wife Ruth Ann GOODWIN, for whom she was named. The HALL & CLARK families tie in with FALKNER, HOOPER, WORD, GOODWIN, ADAMS, TIGRET/TIGERT, MURRY, SMITH and others in n.e. MS, n.w. SC, n.e. GA, and VA going back before the Revolutionary War. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

    3. Hi, Pat, I apologize for the delay in my replying to you. We were on vacation, then had other things going on, and I just got real behind in checking my e-mails, then I just plain forgot to check the list e-mails! I'm going back through old e-mails and found your reply to the Lancaster line question. I don't think I've seen the 1920 census to be able to tell you about the people listed with Ruby. She was married in 1921. She had the following bros/sisters: Myrtle Lena Effie Jane Ollie Blanche James Sherman Millard Sheridan Willie Edgar Ruthie Ethel Luther Limon Retha Mae Vallen Gaines I can give you a little bit more on her line, from what I received from Vallen, if you'd like. Please e-mail me directly at mmaness@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Pat! I did find your Ruby Ree in the 1920 census but none of the names were any that I recognized. However, would like to find that our lines crossed somewhere and we could share what we have. Your own surname caught my eye. Even if your "Lancaster" surname is your married name, do you know if anyone in Corinth or the surrounding area is researching the Lancaster name? My husband's paternal grandmother was Ruby Ree Lancaster (married a Maness). Her father was William Gaines Lancaster and her mother was Ida Lucenda Rogers. I have a little bit of information on the Lancasters but I haven't been able to corroborate much of it. Ruby and her husband, Lee Elgon Maness, lived primarily in the Corinth/Walnut area before moving to Courtland, AL. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Lisa Maness Norcross, GA

    3. Looking for information on James Monroe Wheeler born August 23, 1852 in Iuka, Tishimingo Co., MS. Possible parents are James F. Wheeler and Mary Messinger (Messenger) who were married 6 Oct 1847 in Itawamba Co., MS. I have not found James F. Wheeler and Mary Messinger on a census together, cannot locate them in the 1850 census. Mary is listed on the 1860 census in Itawamba Co., MS with her sister's family along with her mother, step brother and son James M. James is listed on the 1870 Tishimingo Co. census with grandmother, Charlotte Wallace, and her son Lewis. By 1880 James M. is living in Texas. Have not located Mary Wheeler on 1870 census. Do not know if she remarried or died. Would anyone have any information on these two James Wheelers or the Messinger or Wallace family? Thanks! Jenny Garner jennygarnertx@skynethouston.com
