McKinney, Effie Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: April 11, 1912 An infant of Chas. McKinney and wife, 3 miles south of Iuka, died Friday night and was buried Sunday. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: April 11, 1912 Iuka Route 1 Mr. Dock McKinney of Rock Creek, attended the burial of his brothers baby Sunday eve. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: April 18, 1912 In Memory Of the little twelve months old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Charley McKinney, who died on the 6th day of April and was laid to rest in the Farris graveyard on the 7th. Weep not mamma, papa and little sister; for she has gone to that bright land where no sorrow ever comes. Her little face will greet you in the sweet bye and bye. She is with the happy angels, And I long for her sweet kiss, Her little feet are waiting, In the realm of perfect bliss Lay aside her little playthings, Wet with mothers pearly tears, How well miss little Effie, All the coming weary years. Fold the dainty little dresses, That she never more will wear, For her little feet are waiting, Up above the golden stair. Kiss the little curly tresses, Cut from her bright golden hair, Do the angels kiss our darling, In the realm so bright and fair. O, we pray to meet our darling, For a long, long sweet embrace, Where the little feet are waiting, And we meet her face to face. Angels whisper that our darling, Is in the lands of love so fair, That her little feet are waiting, Close beside the golden stair. Dear momma weep not for that little babe, for it has gone home to rest. May God be with you all and may you be able to meet the loved ones that have gone before. I have the full story of the assination of W. W. Harris as it was printed in the Vidette but did not want to post it as it may be offinsive to some people who may be related to the shooter. If anyone wants the full account send me your personal e-mail and I will send it to you. Mildred Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 28, 1912 W. W. Harris Never before since the burial of Gov. Stone has there been such an immense audience at a funeral as gathered at the Methodist church last Tuesday morning at 10:30. The choir sang solemn music and the pastor of the Methodist church led in the exercises assisted by the Baptist pastor. Rev. W. L. Graves made an eloquent talk and short talks were made by Dr. F. T. Carmack and G. W. Dudley. The feelings of those present were wrought up to a high pitch. Deep sorrow permeated the whole assemblage. Nor is this strange, for not only has a useful and prominent citizen been snatched from our midst, but the cruel, unprovoked character of the unprovoked tragedy was calculated to stir mens hearts, who could hardly realize that in our beautiful and beloved Iuka such a monstrous thing had been done. And when they looked in the face of the victim, usually so pleasant and cheerful but now rigid from the assassins bullets, memories of his past life, his public spirited generous life, would rise and the tears would flow. To the writer of this faint tribute this was especially true, for was he not our friend, tried, true and faithful? A greater part of this immense assemblage wended their way to Oak Grove Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral service, where, under the auspices of the W O W and Masonic fraternity, his body was consigned to the earth. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 28, 1912 A large number of relatives and friends came down from Cherokee to attend the funeral of W. W. Harris. Among them we noted Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Harris, H. C. Cobb, Geo. H. Ross, W. P. Rutland, Chas. Turner, J. B. Pride, Dr. C. W. Williams; also Rev. Kennamer and C. J. Blanton, from Margerum. There were also many others whose names escape us. --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell.

This is one I can't connect to patriarch Geo. W. Vaughan? I found the same one digging in at the UM research library. 19th MS Reg., Forrest's Cavalry - Lt. J. Vaughn; another 26th MS Reg, CO K, J.M. Vaughn. At UM I used History of Battle of Iuka; War rosters and History of Tish Old Tish CO in MS Territory, published (oddly) in Oklahoma City at an address I can't spot here? Too often Vaughans conveniently dropped the second A! RR Hefton ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
That is such a great picture of Carmack ID'd in the album. At first, I had no idea who he was or if possibly related so when at UM I ran a scrub on him and found him indeed facinating. I believe J.T.V. must have been a protege of his and at least a fond admirer. In 1850, I found him at 25, a teacher, living with Cornelius Carmack. 1870 & 80 he had a family living in Alcorn/Jacinto with wife Lizzie/Elizabeth and in '80 six kids, one a teacher the others students. I think I saw his son Edd later as a teacher also. E.W. is also listed as enrolled in 2nd MS Inf. Reg by one R. Griffith along with Alex McRae and Wm. H. Moody, related to J.T.V. That's about all I have on him, and probably all I need, but sounds to me like if the area has an Education Hall of Fame, he needs to be included! I decided to see what else I could find on E.W. Carmack. Page 89 Alcorn County Family History Vol. 1 HISTORIC JACINTO "In an area of sparse population and difficult living conditions education generally took a back seat to earning a living in Old Tishomingo County. Jacinto was more fortunate than many small villages in those days; a two story private school was located in the southern part of town. The Jacinto Male Academy operated five months of the year, boarded students who lived beyond commuting distance, and offered courses in Latin, Greek, Algebra, Geography, Orthography, Philosophy, etc. So great was the reputation of Professors CARMACK, McNeil and others, that students from three states attended." http://www.rootsweb.com/~msalcorn/
