    1. [MSTISHOM] J. A. Ramsey - Obituary - 1912
    2. Mickie Aday
    3. Ramsey, Mr. J. A. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Date of Death: March 08, 1912 J. A. Ramsey Dead Mr. J. A. Ramsey, better known as Uncle Josh Ramsey, died at his home 4 miles north of Iuka, on the 8th inst aged about 68 years. Mr. Ramsey had been a citizen of this county for many years. He volunteered at the beginning of the great war and served as a member of Co E, 4th Alabama Cavalry - better known as Roddy’s Regiment. After the war he settled down as a farmer, near where he died. He also ran a steam mill for many years. He was an enterprising and industrious man until his health broke down a few years ago. He then moved to Burnsville where he remained several years, his health constantly growing worse. Last year he spent in Iuka, hoping that the mineral waters would be beneficial but tuberculosis had developed in his lungs and human skill cannot cope with this dread disease. He realized that death was sure and was reconciled to meet it without fear. For two days he lay in a stupor from the disease and then passed quietly away. He leaves a widow and several children to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Baptist church. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Local and Personal Mr. S. A. Ramsey and family returned to Tuscumbia Sunday morning after attending the funeral of J. A. Ramsey at the Patrick School House. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Card of Thanks We wish to thank the good people for their kindness during the long illness and death of our dear husband and father. May the Lord bless them all. Mrs. Julia Ramsey and Sons Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Burnsville The message came here Friday that J. A. Ramsey was dead. W. L. 2. Mickie Aday
    3. Monroe, Will Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: April 18, 1912 Died – Mr. Will Monroe died at his home near Allsboro last Saturday night from paralysis. He was about 24 years of age. He once worked at the barber’s trade in Iuka a few years since. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: May 2, 1912 In Memory Mr. Willie Monroe died at his home near Allsboro on the 14th of April and was laid to rest at Allsboro on the 15th. Willie was a fine young man of about 33 years of age. He is survived by his father, mother, three sisters and a host of true friends who seem very sad to think he has gone. But we pray that we may be able to meet him on that bright and happy shore. Willie was always bright and happy and carried sunshine wherever he went. That happy home will be so sad without him, but he is waiting on that bright shore. Papa, momma and sisters, weep not for he is waiting to greet you. Then let us work and do our best, Soon God will take us home to rest; For he finds us tried and true, We’ll live with him across the blue. Dear friends, then all be still and wait, Soon thou wilt pass the Pearly Gate, What a meeting will ensue, With those we love across the blue. If we will try we will meet them where we’ll part no more. May the love of God be with you all. A Friend --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! Weep not as those who have no hope for she has gone to live with God, to await the coming of those dear ones that are left behind. She was laid to rest in the Red Sulphur Springs cemetery and a large crowd attended the burial which was conducted by Rev. Harris Bazzel. A loving one from us is gone, Her voice they loved is stilled, A place is vacant in that home, Which can never be filled. If anyone wants the full account send me your personal e-mail and I will send it to you. Mildred Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 28, 1912 W. W. Harris Never before since the burial of Gov. Stone has there been such an immense audience at a funeral as gathered at the Methodist church last Tuesday morning at 10:30. The choir sang solemn music and the pastor of the Methodist church led in the exercises assisted by the Baptist pastor. Rev. W. L. Graves made an eloquent talk and short talks were made by Dr. F. T. Carmack and G. W. Dudley. The feelings of those present were wrought up to a high pitch. Deep sorrow permeated the whole assemblage. Nor is this strange, for not only has a useful and prominent citizen been snatched from our midst, but the cruel, unprovoked character of the unprovoked tragedy was calculated to stir men's hearts, who could hardly realize that in our beautiful and beloved Iuka such a monstrous thing had been done. And when they looked in the face of the victim, usually so pleasant and cheerful but now rigid from the assassin's bullets, memories of his past life, his public spirited generous life, would rise and the tears would flow. To the writer of this faint tribute this was especially true, for was he not our friend, tried, true and faithful? A greater part of this immense assemblage wended their way to Oak Grove Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral service, where, under the auspices of the W O W and Masonic fraternity, his body was consigned to the earth.
