A. Ramsey - Obituary - 1912 Ramsey, Mr. J. A. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Date of Death: March 08, 1912 J. A. Ramsey Dead Mr. J. A. Ramsey, better known as Uncle Josh Ramsey, died at his home 4 miles north of Iuka, on the 8th inst aged about 68 years. Mr. Ramsey had been a citizen of this county for many years. He volunteered at the beginning of the great war and served as a member of Co E, 4th Alabama Cavalry - better known as Roddy's Regiment. After the war he settled down as a farmer, near where he died. He also ran a steam mill for many years. He was an enterprising and industrious man until his health broke down a few years ago. He then moved to Burnsville where he remained several years, his health constantly growing worse. Last year he spent in Iuka, hoping that the mineral waters would be beneficial but tuberculosis had developed in his lungs and human skill cannot cope with this dread disease. He realized that death was sure and was reconciled to meet it without fear. For two days he lay in a stupor from the disease and then passed quietly away. He leaves a widow and several children to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Baptist church. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Local and Personal Mr. S. A. Ramsey and family returned to Tuscumbia Sunday morning after attending the funeral of J. A. Ramsey at the Patrick School House. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Card of Thanks We wish to thank the good people for their kindness during the long illness and death of our dear husband and father. May the Lord bless them all. Mrs. Julia Ramsey and Sons Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 14, 1912 Burnsville The message came here Friday that J. A. Ramsey was dead. W. L. Norman was called to attend his funeral but was unable to go. Mr. Ramsey was an old citizen of Burnsville. --------------------------------- Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MSTISHOM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Thank you: Jean Crane djcrane@nadata.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mickie Aday" <mildredaday@yahoo.com> To: "tishomingo" <mstishom-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 1:21 PM Subject: [MSTISHOM] W. W. Harris Obituary - 1912 I have the full story of the assination of W. W. Harris as it was printed in the Vidette but did not want to post it as it may be offinsive to some people who may be related to the shooter. If anyone wants the full account send me your personal e-mail and I will send it to you. Mildred Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 28, 1912 W. W. Harris Never before since the burial of Gov. Stone has there been such an immense audience at a funeral as gathered at the Methodist church last Tuesday morning at 10:30. The choir sang solemn music and the pastor of the Methodist church led in the exercises assisted by the Baptist pastor. Rev. W. L. Graves made an eloquent talk and short talks were made by Dr. F. T. Carmack and G. W. Dudley. The feelings of those present were wrought up to a high pitch. Deep sorrow permeated the whole assemblage. Nor is this strange, for not only has a useful and prominent citizen been snatched from our midst, but the cruel, unprovoked character of the unprovoked tragedy was calculated to stir men's hearts, who could hardly realize that in our beautiful and beloved Iuka such a monstrous thing had been done. And when they looked in the face of the victim, usually so pleasant and cheerful but now rigid from the assassin's bullets, memories of his past life, his public spirited generous life, would rise and the tears would flow. To the writer of this faint tribute this was especially true, for was he not our friend, tried, true and faithful? A greater part of this immense assemblage wended their way to Oak Grove Cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral service, where, under the auspices of the W O W and Masonic fraternity, his body was consigned to the earth. Published in: The Vidette Date of Publication: March 28, 1912 A large number of relatives and friends came down from Cherokee to attend the funeral of W. W. Harris. Among them we noted Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Harris, H. C. Cobb, Geo. H. Ross, W. P. Rutland, Chas. Turner, J. B. Pride, Dr. C. W. Williams; also Rev. Kennamer and C. J. Blanton, from Margerum. There were also many others whose names escape us. --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MSTISHOM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by DataNet] -- No virus found in this incoming message.
