This is the mother of my very best friend, Patricia Thorne Nichols. Virginia's mother was a Wadkins and her mother was a Hubbard, of the early Iuka ancestry; her father was a Joslin and somehow the Brown surname fits in there. Brenda Virginia J. Belk IUKA - Virginia J. Belk, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved the Lord and put the needs of her family first. She enjoyed painting, sketching and creative activities. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with Bro. Greg Woodruff and Bro. John Gwatney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Michael Belk (Marsha) and Steve Belk (Debbie Cupples), both of Iuka; two daughters, Patricia Nichols (Paul) of Wynne, Ark., and Sharron Belk of Columbus; two sisters, Margaret DeWeese of Panama City, Fla., and Shirley Burns of Kansas; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Flora Joslin; a sister, Ella Jean Johnson; a brother, Charles Joslin; and a grandchild, Sara Elizabeth Belk. NEW ALBANY - Dorothy L. Davis, 88, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at her home. She was born March 1, 1919, in Tishomingo to the late Frank and Ola Henley Pharr. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Life Pentecostal Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Mortimer Funeral Home in New Albany. Burial will be in Jericho Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Ivey of New Albany; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren.
